Sports Report

Term 3 Sport was outstanding for CSC, with students proudly representing the college across a wide range of competitions at Sandhurst, Loddon Mallee Region and State level. From cross country and athletics to netball, soccer and basketball, our students demonstrated exceptional commitment, teamwork, resilience and school pride. Their achievements throughout the term were a wonderful reflection of the positive sporting culture that continues to grow at CSC.

Cross Country

The term began with an impressive achievement in cross country, with six CSC students (Wilbur Bunting, Finn Girbon, Lani Millard, Judd Pratt, Remy Vellacott and Jack Turner) qualifying to compete at the SSV State Cross Country Championships on the 16th of July. Reaching the state level is a significant accomplishment and highlights the dedication and perseverance shown by these students throughout their cross-country campaigns. 

CSC enjoyed tremendous success on the courts and fields at the Loddon Mallee Regional Finals in July. Our Senior Boys Netball team claimed first place, earning the opportunity to progress to the state finals, while the Year 7/8 Girls Soccer team also finished first, demonstrating excellent teamwork and skill against strong regional competition. These results were among the standout achievements of the term and reflected the hard work and determination of both teams.

Basketball

Basketball also provided plenty of opportunities for CSC students to compete and develop their skills. At the Sandhurst Year 7 Basketball competition, both the boys' and girls' teams recorded one win from their four games. Later in the term, the Year 9/10 Boys team celebrated a victory, while the girls' team showed persistence and resilience throughout a challenging competition. Regardless of results, all teams represented CSC with enthusiasm and continued to build their confidence and experience on the court.

Senior Boys Netball

Following on from their success at Loddon Mallee in July, and one of the highlights of the term, was the incredible performance of our Senior Boys Netball team at the State Finals, where they finished an outstanding second in Victoria. This remarkable achievement is a testament to the team's talent, commitment and ability to perform at the highest level. To finish as the second-best team in the state is an achievement the entire CSC community can be extremely proud of. 

Year 8 Girls Soccer

Another huge highlight was our Year 8 Girls Soccer team who also represented CSC at the State Finals, competing with determination and spirit against some of the strongest teams in Victoria. The team recorded a 3–0 victory, alongside two tough losses, and was deservedly recognised with the Spirit of Sport Award. This award is particularly special, acknowledging the team's sportsmanship, positive attitude and the respectful way they represented Castlemaine Secondary College throughout the competition.

Sandhurst Track and Field Championships

The term concluded with a strong showing at the Sandhurst Track and Field Championships in Bendigo, where an impressive 37 CSC students competed across a range of events. Several students achieved outstanding results, including Aurora Annear-Foster, Lani Millard and Elspeth Cook, who all qualified for the Loddon Mallee Regional Championships. Other notable performances included the Year 7 Girls Relay team finishing third, the Year 8 Girls Relay team also finishing third, and Ada placing third in the high jump. These achievements highlighted the depth of athletic talent and enthusiasm across the college.

Overall, Term 3 was a fantastic celebration of participation, achievement and school spirit at Castlemaine Secondary College. While the results were impressive, the most important success was the way CSC students consistently demonstrated resilience, teamwork, determination and respect for others. Congratulations to every student who represented the college throughout the term, and thank you to the staff, coaches and supporters who helped make these opportunities possible. We look forward to seeing what our talented students can achieve in term 4!

Victorian School Mountain Bike Series Comes to Castlemaine

Castlemaine Rocky Riders and Castlemaine Secondary College were thrilled to host Round 6, the penultimate round of the Victorian School Mountain Bike Series, on Saturday 12 September.

Now in its third consecutive year, the event continues to grow, with approximately 150 riders from across Victoria competing across five age groups. Riders tackled a unique course incorporating the school grounds, surrounding bushland and even the three flights of stairs through the heart of CSC!

The day was a fantastic success, creating a fun and welcoming atmosphere for riders, families and supporters. A huge thank you to the Castlemaine Rocky Riders, CSC Outdoor Recreation students and dedicated volunteers who gave their time to set up and marshal the course.

We are particularly grateful to our Parents Club, whose volunteers worked throughout the day to run the barbecue and keep riders, parents, carers and supporters fuelled and hydrated with breakfasts, lunches and cold drinks. Their tremendous efforts raised more than $1,300 for the college.

Thank you to everyone who assisted, including Damon Girbon, Brad Perry, Bronwen Bristow, Brittany Light, Emma, Simon & Liz Duthie, Affrika and Max McCarthy, Deanne Greenwood, Jennie Peel and Caroline Scott. Your generosity, hard work and community spirit helped make the day such a success.
