Music Program

The music department has had another wonderful term. Early in the term department took the Symphony Orchestra and, for the first time, the Du Pré Strings to the Victorian Schools' Music Festival. The ensembles performed in sections which included of select-entry public schools, and private schools from Melbourne. They did exceptionally well, with both groups receiving Silver Awards. After these performances students completed their technical assessments and we had the first two recitals of the semester. In both of these areas, the students displayed outstanding poise and attention to detail, embodying our College value of Aspiration.

In the last week of term, we were very fortunate to have been visited by three faculty members and two students from the Elder Conservatorium at the University of Adelaide. Students in the Kreisler Strings and Du Pré Strings performed alongside the visiting artists, and participated in workshops from Elder Conservatorium's teachers and students including the Head of Classical Performance, Dr Elizabeth Layton. At the end of the day, we were treated to a breathtaking performance of a diverse selection of repertoire which showed the virtuosity of the visiting artists. This was an amazing opportunity for our students and one which they will cherish for many years to come.
