Assistant Principal's News

Hello to all Clayton North Primary families and friends. As we reach the midpoint of Term 3, it is wonderful to reflect on the many achievements and experiences our students have enjoyed so far. Classrooms have been buzzing with purposeful learning, with students demonstrating enthusiasm, perseverance and growth across a range of learning areas. Throughout the term, students have also participated in a variety of enriching events and programs designed to extend their thinking and enhance their learning. With many exciting opportunities still ahead, we look forward to a successful and rewarding second half of the term.

Teaching and Learning

1/2 Sustainable Engineers Program 

This Term, we have begun our 1/2 STEM program which Sue has kindly arranged for our students. 

Through this 6-week project, students have the opportunity to work in teams to design and build a robot that helps sort rubbish using colour sensors, LEDs, and a moving lid. Through hands-on coding and engineering, our students have the opportunity to learn about sustainability, different types of waste, and how technology can help reduce environmental impact. 

We can't wait to see what their robots look like and for the “Rubbish Sorting Extravaganza”!

Australian Maths Competition

On Tuesday 4th August Year 5/6 students, Kabya, Zea, Amika, Aaron, Nabasta and Saarah participated in the Australian Mathematics Competition. The competition contains unique problems designed each year by leading educators and academics to challenge and extend your students’ problem-solving skills.

We eagerly await to find out the results of our students hard work! Thank you to Precious for leading this.

Maths Game Day

On Friday 14th August, Precious supported Naura, Amika, Kamasean, and Kabya at the Maths Game Day at Keysborough Primary School , competing against approximately 50 teams from other schools. The Maths Game Day challenged students ability to think strategically to solve problems in a fun and collaborative way.  We thank Precious for her efforts in organising this opportunity for our students and congratulate the four students who gave their personal best when representing CNPS.

Collingwood AFLW Q&A

We were fortunate to have several players from the Collingwood AFLW team visit our school on 5th August. Their visit to CNPS allowed students to learn more about the following:

• What AFLW is and the basic rules of the game

• The skills and qualities of elite athletes

• Teamwork, perseverance and sportsmanship

Students demonstrated respect to our guests whilst eagerly asking questions about one of the most popular sports within Australia.

ICAS Assessments

The ICAS Assessment window has opened and students who elected to participate, have now completed their Digital Technologies, English and Science assessments thus far. Our final ICAS assessment is Maths which is also our most popular! It will be held on Wednesday 26th August at 11:30am.

Congratulations to all of those students who opted to challenge themselves and take on the ICAS Assessments in 2026. Certificate to recognise student achievement will be awarded during Term 3. 

Premiers Reading Challenge

There are 15 days remaining for students to complete the Premier's Reading Challenge. So far, as a school, we have read and verified 1295 books which is incredible!  Our goal was to hit 1,000 books read by the end of the challenge, so we are now pushing this to 1,500! We are close and think we can get there.  Thank you to the families who are supporting their children by reading at home and logging their books on the PRC portal.  If you require another copy of your child's login details, please contact the office.

Student Wellbeing & Inclusion

CNPS Staff

Rachel Yeo - Psychologist

During Term 2, we were fortunate to have Rachel commence with us and add to our Student Wellbeing Team. Rachel's arrival has increased the amount of support that we are able to provide for our students and families, with her knowledge of local Allied Health Services and where to refer our families to for support, a significant positive for our school community.

Rachel works fortnightly on a Wednesday at CNPS and has been in contact with families throughout her time with us, and will continue to do so throughout the remainder of 2026. 

Danica - RMIT Social Worker student

At the beginning of Term 2, we welcomed Danica who is currently completing her University training to become a social worker. Danica is being supported during her placement by myself, Josie and Rachel which has also provided another source of support for our students. 

Danica is predominantly working to support our F-2 students and is running a 'Storytime session' during recess time on Monday, Wednesday and Friday.
