Supporting our EAL/D Year 4 Students

The EAL/D (English as an Additional Language or Dialect) program supports our newly arrived Year 4 students as they learn English and settle into school life.  Students learn to build their speaking, listening, reading and writing skills through engaging activities, conversations, reading and guided writing.

They learn new vocabulary by speaking in everyday situations to build confidence through games, group activities and classroom discussions.

Reading lessons focus on helping students understand and enjoy books that match their English level.

The students read simple decodable texts which help them build confidence by practising letter – sound relationships and reading words independently.

They are also writing simple recounts, descriptions and information reports.  These activities help them to organise their ideas into sentences.
