Classrooms 

As we come to the end of Term 3, it has been wonderful to see the students’ growth, enthusiasm and engagement across all areas of learning.

English:

As the final task in our mentor text unit, students have been developing their skills as journalists by writing a newspaper report about the events in The Sugarcane Kids and the Red-Bottomed Boat. Students planned their articles using a multi-paragraph outline before writing a complete news report. They focused on using time connectives, topic-specific vocabulary, strong action words and fictional eyewitness quotes to make their reports informative and engaging.

We have also continued our work on explanation texts. This week, students are applying what they have learnt about the structure and language features of explanation texts by researching a topic of their choice and writing their own explanation of how it works. It has been fantastic to see students use their research skills while incorporating features such as cause-and-effect language, subject-specific vocabulary and time connectives.

Mathematics

In Maths, we have been making connections between fractions and decimals, exploring how fractions can be represented as decimals. Students have also been learning about length, including how to accurately measure length using appropriate units and measuring tools. We have extended this learning by representing measurements using decimal notation, helping students make connections between their measurement knowledge and their understanding of decimals.

Integrated Studies - Science Challenge Show

Last week, we held our Science Challenge Show, and it was wonderful to see so many parents and families come along to support the students. Students designed and tested their own science challenge, drawing on one of the scientific concepts we have explored throughout the term. They then had the opportunity to share their challenge and explain the science behind it.

We are now reflecting on our learning from the Science Challenge Show, thinking about what went well, what we enjoyed and what we could improve next time. These reflections help students recognise their achievements and identify ways they can continue to develop as learners.

We would like to wish all our Grade 3/4 families a safe and happy break. We hope everyone enjoys some time to relax, recharge and spend time with family and friends. We look forward to seeing everyone ready for another exciting term of learning!

Home Learning Reminders

To support our learning at school, we ask that students complete the following home learning each week:

• Read for 30 minutes each night
• Complete the weekly activity from the Maths Home Learning Grid that was sent home earlier in the term.
• Practise weekly spelling words each night (Look, Say, Cover, Write, Check)
• Multiplication Practice - sent home each week

The maths, spelling and multiplication sheets are glued in Home Learning books, and students should bring these each Monday to receive new home learning for the week ahead and to submit their homework for the previous week to their teachers.
