You don't need to spend lots of money to keep children active and engaged. 

Melbourne Museum – FREE holiday activity

One particularly good option for your Parent Corner is Mosaic Monuments at Melbourne Museum. It is listed as a free school-holiday activity running from 19 September to 4 October. Museums Victoria is also running its broader spring school-holiday program across Melbourne Museum, Scienceworks and the Immigration Museum.

Melbourne Royal Show

The Melbourne Royal Show runs from 24 September to 4 October 2026 at Melbourne Showgrounds. It is obviously not a free option, but it's one of the major school-holiday events for primary-aged children, with animals, agriculture, rides, entertainment and showbags.

Geelong Wonder Children's Festival

If families are happy to travel a little further, the Geelong Wonder Children's Festival runs 14–24 September 2026, with a range of children's activities and events. There are free activities among the program.
