Sports Update

Student Success

We have had several students get selected in State teams. The two latest were also given leadership roles within the team.

Daniel Ioane Yr 7 – Captain of the Vic 12 yrs and under Rugby League – the Victorian team placed 3rd in the carnival held in Canberra.

Haleina Tanoi Yr 10 – Vice Captain of the Victorian u/16 yrs netball team that placed 3rd at the National championships held on the Gold Coast.

We have had a lot of rugby success lately. Look for the separate rugby report.

Interschool Sport teams

Soccer – Yr 8 boys Region level – we qualified for the Region final on countback. Unfortunately, we lost a couple of key players, so we struggled with numbers. Keilor Downs beat us 6-1, Western Heights just got us big time 11-0 and we upset Williamstown 3-2 in a terrific performance.

Cross country Region level

–13yrs boys -Jax Newbold 69th Zayn Newbold 78th and 17-20yrs girls Jayde Young 26th

Netball – Region level – Intermediate Girls

Unfortunately, we had a couple of our top players out, so it was a bit of a struggle by the girls who never gave up but just found the quality opposition a bit too good. We lost all three games by small margins - to Springside West 17/20, to Williamstown 15/22 and to Western Heights 11/17.

NetballVictorian Schoolgirls Championships qualifying day.

One of the days was held in Melton, good for our travel but we expected the powerful Ballarat schools to be here – and they were.

Junior girls - played really well reaching the 6th game undefeated – defeating various Marymeade campuses 11-3, 18-0, 18-1, 20-2 def Ballarat Grammar 9-6 but lost to the other undefeated team Loretto College 4-7 after giving them a 4-goal lead that we could not peg back.

Intermediate Girls – at the start of the day we lost 4 of our starting 7 – (3 of which are State or Region reps) so the team of 7 had no height, no bench, and little positional changes. They tried hard and never dropped the attitude, so we were really pleased with how they represented us. We lost all games to Loretto, Marymeade, Western Heights, Point Cook and Ballarat Grammar.

Senior Girls – a 4-team pool so we played all teams twice. Loretto and Ballarat Grammar were very good and significantly taller in the ring area at both ends making games very hard for us. We managed to defeat Marymeade College.

Badminton – Senior and Intermediates Division level

  • Senior girls – def Sunbury 3/3 (114-104), def Kurunjang 6-0, def Sunbury Downs 5/1 but lost the match to Gisborne on points difference 3/3 (105-120)
  • Intermediate Boys – def Bacchus Marsh 3/3 (113/105) but lost to Gisborne 3/3 (100-103)
  • Intermediate Girls – lost to Gisborne 1/8

Athletics

The first draft of the athletics squad has been released. It was posted on Compass. About 100 students have been selected. If anyone does not want to compete, could they withdraw early instead of just not turning up. Replacements can be found beforehand, but it is not as easy on the day as the team organisation on the day can be quite hectic. Only one person has withdrawn so far.

Entries and Trainings

Students will be able to sign up to be considered for team selections on a Compass post that has been activated. This gives us an indication whether we have the interested numbers to enter a team. If students fail to sign up, then we must assume that there is little interest, and that team will not be entered. Look for the training Compass post send out on a Friday or each weekend.

Trainings will occur on Mondays, Thursdays and Friday afterschool 3.15pm-4.15pm.
