Rugby Academy

This term has seen a number of different rugby competitions with varying success throughout different age groups. Our senior boys 13 aside team won the Victorian State competition and will travel interstate on 28 August. Students are excited to test their skill against NSW opposition after narrowly beating Craigieburn 20-18.

Our under 14’s have qualified for the final of the 9 aside competition which will see both the boys and girls teams play on AAMI park for the State title on the 24th August. This is another exciting opportunity for these students who will receive tickets to the Storm vs Dolphins clash after.

Our under 14’s boys and girls teams also competed in the 13 aside gala day last week. The boys played extremely well with victories in their first 2 games and a draw with Vic Uni before losing to cross town rivals Staughton 24-0, meaning sadly that they will not progress. The draw affected our ability to play at our best. Our girls side played the day with only 10 people. Despite this they showed great skill and determination winning all of their games except 1 which was a hotly contested draw with Vic Uni. We are awaiting confirmation to see if the 14’s girls have qualified for the state finals on 10 September.

Our Rebels Shield open team have had an interesting start to the competition being 3 rounds in they have only played 1 game and despite a valiant effort, the Barbarians team got the win 34-7. We will take on Fountain Gate SC and The Grange P-12 college in an effort to qualify for finals in week 7.

A special congratulations to Daniel Ioane who last week travelled to the ACT for the National championships. Daniel was named captain of the VIC u/12’s side. The team played well to finish with a bronze medal in 3rd place.

A number of our students were selected to trial for the state 16’s rugby Vic team for the upcoming Super Rugby tournament (pictured).

Congratulations to Sam, Poe and Parish who represented MSC at the schoolboy championships over the school holidays and for making the U19 trial shortlist for the Rugby Vic U19 team. A further congratulations to Matthew Sauao and Jacob Bush who were selected in the Rugby Victorian selection team U18’s.

Thank you parents and carers for your support in getting our students to these events but we would like to give a special shoutout to Lavinia Afungia who volunteers her time to film games and post match interviews. It is greatly appreciated and invaluable! If you would like to see the school in action just head to NiaMedia on YouTube.
