2025 National School Futsal Championships
During the September school holidays, Ryan C represented Victoria in the 2025 National School Futsal Championships held in Queensland. Victoria competed against teams from NSW, Queensland, ACT and Tasmania over the week long tournament. Here is his account of the tournament.
“Over the school holidays, I participated in a Futsal tournament representing the Victoria City team made up of the best Futsal players selected from a futsal tournament I participated in with the Year 7 EXCEL Sport team.
All of us went up to Queensland and kicked off the tournament with a group stage, made up of 6 teams. In that group stage, we finished 2nd place. After that, we moved on to a normal elimination bracket. From there, we made it to the final after 2 straight game wins. Then we unfortunately lost. But we finished much further ahead than what we thought.
Congratulations Ryan on an incredible effort to not only make the team but to represent yourself and Victoria with such distinction.

Year 9 EXCEL Sport Ultimate Frisbee State Championships
On Tuesday 14th October, the Year 9 EXCEL Sport class headed to Parkville to compete in the Ultimate Victoria Frisbee State Championships. This prestigious event brought together both government and independent schools from across Victoria, all vying for medals and coveted SSV Pennants. After weeks of dedicated training, our students were eager to put their skills to the test and they did not disappoint.
The Girls’ team were in sensational form, playing three intense 22-minute games to earn their spot in the State SSV Finals. As the competition heated up, so did their performance. They dominated the State Grand Final with an incredible 10–1 victory, claiming both the State Championship Gold Medal and SSV State Title. The girls finished the day undefeated, overcoming highly skilled teams from both government and non-government schools.
Our two Boys’ teams also impressed. After strong performances in their round-robin pools, both advanced to the finals. The A Team fought hard in a nail-biting semi-final, narrowly going down to Luther College before bouncing back with a commanding 11–0 win over Melbourne High in the bronze medal match, earning the title of SSV State Runners Up.
Meanwhile, the B Team battled their way into the Gold Medal match against Luther College. After conceding an early lead, they launched a spirited comeback but just fell short in the final minutes to finish as State Silver Medallists and SSV State Champions.
All teams from Patterson River Secondary Colle displayed outstanding teamwork, sportsmanship and skill throughout the day. A fantastic achievement that reflects the effort and passion of the entire EXCEL Sport class.
Thank you to Mrs. Brand for her assistance throughout the day.

Year 9 EXCEL Sport High Performance Camp
From Monday 6th October, our Year 9 EXCEL Sport class took part in an action-packed five-day camp across Melbourne, the sporting capital of Australia. Students trained with elite High-Performance staff at RSEA Park, underwent professional testing with Allied Health experts at PhysiPro in Seaford, toured the legendary MCG, ran the famous Tan Track, explored Olympic Boulevard and took part in an official Rookie Me draft combine experience.
Throughout the week, students gained first-hand insight into what it takes to ‘be the best’—developing their knowledge in strength and conditioning, recovery, nutrition and mental fitness. They had the unique opportunity to train, test and learn in the same environments as professional athletes, bringing to life everything they’ve studied over the past three years of the EXCEL Sport Program.
It was a fantastic week of learning, growth and inspiration for both staff and students. A huge thank you to Mrs. Brand and Mr. Hayes for their time, guidance and enthusiasm throughout the camp.

HoopNation NZ Basketball
Titus U of Year 7 has recently competed in HoopNation, which is an annual basketball tournament held in Tauranga, New Zealand, that has 100’s of teams coming from all over the world to compete in high level basketball for experience, exposure and opportunity purposes for Junior and Senior Boys and Girls. Titus was selected to represent a basketball club named “Ukaipo” (meaning:- coming home, at home, welcome home) for U14 Elite Boys, which is the highest grade.
Titus, alongside 7 other selected teammates from all over Victoria, went through the first 3 days of the tournament undefeated, breaking lads that stood 6’7 and yet Titus and his team showed honour, playing with heart, determination, pure team spirit and effort which got them to the Grand Final. Ukaipo came runners up. The competition was fierce however they never backed down. The cultural experiences they also engaged in opened their eyes to another culture that they learned to appreciate.
Overall the amazing experience was something that Titus will never forget.
Congratulations Titus on representing yourself, your team and your sport with pride and excellence. We look forward to following your basketball journey with interest.
