Dance News
It’s been an exciting and busy term in Dance!
Our Year 12 students kicked off the term with their Performance Examinations on Monday 6th October, showcasing the culmination of their hard work and creativity.
Just two days later, we celebrated our Semester 2 Dance Showcase on Wednesday 8th October, featuring performances from Dance Extension, Year 8 Dance Works, Year 9 Dance Skills and VCE Dance students. The evening presented an inspiring range of solos, duos/trios and group works that highlighted the talent and dedication of our dancers.
We also held our first ever Choreographic Competition on Thursday 23rd October. The event featured a wonderful array of student choreography, adjudicated by three of our current and past Dance Captains — Ali, Lia and Oakley. Congratulations to Penny, who won the Solo Division and Briana and Maddi, winners of the Duo/Trio Section.
Looking ahead, 25 of our dancers are busy preparing to perform at the Official Christmas Street Parade in Frankston on Saturday 29th November. This is a fantastic opportunity to share our students talent with the wider community.
Finally, a huge congratulations to four of our students who have successfully auditioned for some of Victoria’s top dance training institutions:
- Lia – Full-Time Dance and Musical Theatre, Dance World
- Laura – Elevate Training Program (Contemporary Stream), Transit Dance
- Tessa – Elevate Training Program (Musical Theatre Stream), Transit Dance
- Sienna – Professional Development Program, Patrick School of the Arts
This is a wonderful achievement and a testament to their passion, perseverance and dedication to the Performing Arts.
Wakakirri Auditions
Next year, we’re doing something a little different - we’re taking part in Wakakirri, a national Story-Dance Challenge where schools create short, powerful performances that tell a story through dance, movement and creativity. It’s our chance to make something entirely our own.
Wakakirri isn’t just for primary schools - it’s a creative, high-energy production where we create the story and characters, design the costumes, set and lighting, perform on a professional stage and showcase our school’s creativity (with opportunities to win show, state and national awards).
Wakakirri isn’t just for dancers - it’s for storytellers. Whether you love acting, performing, or designing, Wakakirri gives everyone a chance to bring a story to life on stage.
GROUP AUDITIONS WILL BE HELD FROM MONDAY 24TH NOVEMBER - THURSDAY 27TH NOVEMBER LUNCHTIMES
Auditions will involve learning and performing a short movement sequence and a dramatic improvisation mime task.
Sign up sheets will be outside the PAC from Wednesday 5th November.
