Are You Caught Up?

There is so much going on! At the time of writing there are just 21 days left before Christmas. It is easy to find yourself entangled in a myriad of preparations before the ‘big day’.

Considerations include presents, food, guest lists, where you are going to fit everyone... and what if your invited guests don’t get along! There are Christmas trees and decorations, street frontage displays, what you are going to wear, holiday considerations, entertainment options...

Whew... this list is exhausting, time-consuming and the pressure that goes with it can leave you feeling overwhelmed. It is easy to get caught up in all of this as you engage in the quest to fulfil the wishes of those nearest and dearest to you...

In the hustle and bustle, it can be easy to overlook something...  important.

Long ago, in a time that had its own set of challenges, God gave the ultimate gift of love, in the form of a tiny baby, Jesus. Not even the people in Bethlehem were aware of what had transpired, right in their own backyard. They had other things on their mind at the time...

In fact, God sent messenger angels out to tell some local shepherds who were looking after their sheep one night...

But the angel said to them, “Do not be afraid. I bring you good news of great joy. It is for all the people. Today in the town of David a Saviour has been born to you.  He is Christ the Lord.” Luke2:10,11NIV

They hastened to see the miracle gift for themselves. This tiny baby, Jesus, born in such a humble setting, grew up to be the Saviour of the world.

This infant’s arrival changed everything. The impact of his life and purpose sent ripples across time that reach us here today. He brought with him gifts of lasting love, joy, peace and hope. Gifts not to be brought out and celebrated on just one day of the calendar year, but to be but experienced every day...

Take a moment, if you will, to untangle yourself...

Pause, breathe, rest... and reflect on the gift of Jesus... and his gifts of love, joy, peace and hope... dedicated to you, this Christmas and every day.
