Year 11 Digital Solutions Industry Breakfast

In partnership with QUT, EOP and Something Digital, our Year 11 students were invited to attend an industry breakfast, providing a valuable opportunity to connect with like-minded peers and build professional networks within the digital technology sector.

Students had the privilege of hearing from special guest speaker Mr Heiko Hotz, a Generative AI Blackbelt at Google, who shared insights into the future direction of artificial intelligence and its impact on society and the workforce.

One key message was that AI is far more than a tool for completing assignments. In the future, AI will be able to make purchases on our behalf, matching our personal preferences and styles with products and services before completing transactions automatically. As AI capabilities continue to evolve, new career opportunities will emerge, particularly in areas that require strong human connection, creativity and interpersonal skills.

Students found the experience both eye-opening and inspiring. Many said it helped them better understand the opportunities and challenges they may face in future careers, while reinforcing the importance of developing strong communication skills, working in a collaborative environment and staying flexible in a rapidly changing digital world.

Students are encouraged to follow their passions, be curious and embrace lifelong learning as they prepare for an increasingly digital future.

2026 Karting Challenge Wrap up

Last Friday, our students proudly represented the College at the 2026 Karting Challenge, competing against schools from across the region in what proved to be a busy, exciting, and challenging day of racing.

The event commenced with a series of practice sessions, allowing drivers to familiarise themselves with the track and fine-tune their racing lines. This was followed by qualifying sessions, which determined starting positions for the afternoon's competition. The day concluded with the five feature races, where students put their skills, strategy, and teamwork to the test.

While our three teams were unable to secure any overall podium placings this year, every participant demonstrated determination, resilience, and sportsmanship throughout the event. More importantly, they gained valuable experience and learned important lessons that will help strengthen their performances in future competitions.

A special congratulations goes to Jaias Wong from Marist College, who achieved an outstanding first-place finish in Race 5. Well done on a fantastic performance.

The success of this event would not be possible without the generous support of our sponsors and volunteers. We extend our sincere thanks to Ipswich City Dirt Kart Track for their ongoing commitment to hosting and running this outstanding event year after year.

We would also like to express our heartfelt appreciation to Bruce Lewis and Craig Heufel from OnGuard Safety Training for their continued support through scrutineering, event assistance, and sponsorship. Their generosity provided trophies for all students placing 1st, 2nd, and 3rd, as well as the Fastest Lap of the Day award. In addition, they supplied commemorative medallions for each of the 100 student participants who competed this year. Your ongoing support and dedication to the Karting Challenge is truly immeasurable and greatly appreciated.

Finally, a big thank you to Mr Adrian Gray, Mr Peter Ward, and Mr Brian Dougherty for their assistance in organising teams, coordinating logistics, and marshalling throughout the day. Their contribution helped ensure the event ran smoothly and provided a valuable experience for all involved.

Although this year's results did not fall our way, our students represented the College with pride, and we look forward to applying the lessons learned as we work towards returning to the podium when the 15th Karting Challenge is hosted in 2027. We are already looking forward to another year of competition, teamwork, and racing success.
