Akshpreet and Mirren

Weeks 1–2 have been very busy for the Finchiburras with our swimming program in full swing! We are so proud of the confidence, resilience and growth students have shown during their swimming lessons. It has been wonderful to see them encouraging one another and trying their best each day.

Literacy

We explored the letters o, g, r, k, f and e. As our Finchiburras are becoming more confident learners, we have increased the pace of our phonics learning and are now introducing two letters each week! Students have continued practising their red words, handwriting and blending skills. It has been exciting to see many students beginning to independently blend and read simple words and sentences. We are also continuing our sentence journey by looking closely at pictures and discussing what we can see, think and write about. Have a look at our writing samples!

Mathematics

In Mathematics, we completed our learning on the numbers 11–20. Students investigated “teen numbers” by exploring how they are made up of tens and ones using hands-on materials and games. We are now beginning a new focus on data and tally marks, where students will create tallies and discuss what the data shows.

Inquiry

In Inquiry, we explored ideas connected to our big idea and began identifying the important features of fiction texts. Students enjoyed discussing stories, characters and settings while learning what makes a text fictional.

Library

Our library sessions have also begun again! Please enjoy reading the library books with your Finchiburra at home and remember to return them before Wednesday next week so students can borrow exciting new books to take home.

We also had a very special incursion this week and students had lots of fun participating in gymnastics during PE. It was fantastic seeing everyone trying new skills with enthusiasm and confidence.

Parents, you can continue supporting your Finchiburra at home by reading and writing red words, revising the numbers 11–20.

Thank you for your continued support as our Finchiburras continue to grow, learn and shine each day!
