Starting next week, we will begin intensifying our training for the Year 5 and 6 Winter Gala Day, which is scheduled for the second-last week of this term. Students will train during their Year 5 and 6 PE sessions. They will compete in soccer, netball, and volleyball.
To all my PE superstars: I want to take a moment to commend each of you for the fantastic work you’re doing in PE. Keep it up! Whenever you can, practice your sports skills at home. Every time you practice outside of school is an excellent opportunity for improvement.

Year 5/6 students recently completed their embroidery unit inspired by Mexican textile artist Victoria Villasana. Students chose a person who inspires them and created embroidered designs on their canvas. They developed a range of sewing skills, including threading a needle and using a variety of stitches such as running stitch, back stitch, star stitch and text stitching. The creativity, effort and skill displayed in their finished pieces was fantastic.

Year 3/4 students were inspired by the Tjanpi Desert Weavers of the Central and Western Deserts of Australia. Using newspaper, wire, tape and pipe cleaners, students constructed the armature of a 3D animal of their choice before weaving and wrapping wool and raffia around their sculptures, just as the Tjanpi weavers do. Through this project, students further developed both their construction and textiles skills.

Year 1/2 students explored the colourful artwork of Australian contemporary artist Ken Done while creating vibrant coral reef paintings. They learnt a range of watercolour painting techniques and focused on adding texture and pattern to their work.

Foundation students have been developing their clay modelling and textiles skills while creating beautiful clay necklaces as Mother’s Day gifts. Students explored texture by pressing shoe prints into their clay pendants and learnt about pattern while strengthening their fine motor skills through threading beads to complete their necklaces.

Congratulations to all students on their creativity and hard work.
