It's so exciting to be back at BPS for a new year, with new students, families and staff! I can't quite believe however, that the holidays went so quick! A very warm welcome to our new Foundation students, their families and any other new students across BPS and their families and of course to our ongoing students and families. I hope that the summer break provided some rest (although I know the holidays can be pretty full on at times as well).
For those I haven't been able to meet yet, let me introduce myself and my role. My name is Lisa Osborne and I am the Chaplain/Wellbeing Co-Ordinator at BPS. I am a Mum of 5 kids ranging from 15yrs to 28yrs and I am married to Kirk. I work at BPS 2 days a week, Mondays and Thursdays and I am also a registered Midwife and work in Birth suite at the Mercy Hospital 2 days a week.
My role at BPS includes building relationships with community members and offering support to students, staff and families. This is done by providing social, emotional, and practical support, fostering a safe, inclusive, and positive school environment. I offer pastoral care, facilitate mentoring, support student engagement, and help manage challenges like grief, bullying, or family breakdown, just to name a few.
Students can be referred to me by a parent, carer or teacher or they can self refer. Parental consent is required for ongoing support sessions with students, however, one off conversations don't require parental consent.
I also offer support to parents and families in the community, as needed. This could include situations where families might be facing hardship, issues of family breakdown, domestic violence, parenting challenges or just needing someone who is a safe person to talk to.
I am not a psychologist, however, I have a counselling social work background. When there are needs beyond my scope of practice I can provide referrals to other services. It is my hope that should the need arise that each of you would feel free to chat to me in person at school or via my email, lisa.osborne@eduacation.vic.gov.au or via my mobile 0409559059. I am happy to chat over a coffee across the road or at school.
I am looking forward to connecting with each of you throughout the year .
Kind Regards,
Lisa Osborne
