Grade 3 & 4
Term 1, Week 2
Dear Year 3/4 Families,
We are thrilled with how smoothly the students have settled into 2026!
Here is an overview of our learning for Term 1:
Literacy
Writing: We are exploring the "6+1 Traits" of writing and setting individual goals. Our focus genres this term are Persuasive and Narrative writing.
Numeracy
Our focus is Number & Place Value, using mental and written strategies for addition. Lessons align with the Victorian Curriculum proficiencies (Understanding, Fluency, Problem Solving, and Reasoning) and incorporate weekly fluency games to build confidence.
Inquiry
Students have been establishing safe iPad habits and creating a class Acknowledgement of Country. Next week, we begin our Inquiry unit, where students will learn why rules and laws are important for safe and fair communities. They will also take part in a group project comparing First Nations (Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander) rules and laws, which are deeply connected to Country, with the rules and laws of a country of their choice, building understanding and respect for different cultures and perspectives.
NAPLAN Year 3 only (11-13 March)
NAPLAN assesses Reading, Writing, Language Conventions, and Numeracy. Please support your child by encouraging a "do your best" attitude, ensuring they get plenty of sleep, and providing a nutritious breakfast. You can find more information on the official NAPLAN website.
