Dissections

During Semester One of Year 8 Science, students have studied systems of the human body and plants.

We have tackled theoretical and practical tasks that have compared and contrasted the systems. Students participated in a number of dissections of various organs, from a sheep heart to a flower. The dissections highlighted how different diagrams are to real life and we delved into the ethical side of science when considering our once living specimens. 

The use of microscopes certainly brought lots of joy and Felicity to our classes. With students exclaiming constant 'Wows' and 'Look at this Mrs Mac' with the simplest of specimens under examination. 

Student comments on the dissections:

'It was gross but cool'.

'It was interesting to see what the organs looked like in real life. They felt different to what I thought'.

'At first I wasn't going to do it {the dissection} but then I did it. I'm proud of myself'.

'I can't believe the microscopes make things look this cool.
