Year 10 Work Experience

During the recent work experience program, our year 10 students spent a week in another world … the world of work. The program supports students to move from imagining a career to experiencing one.

They discover what a workplace environment is like, and for many of our students gain valuable insight into careers they plan to pursue in the future.

Regardless of the placement environment, all students have had the opportunity to build their confidence and independence in unfamiliar environments and learned about workplace communication and professional behaviour.

Insights gained from participating in work experience can shape future subject selections, education pathways and career aspirations and that’s part of the reason the work experience program is so highly regarded at MGSC.

Placing students in new and different environments provides the opportunity for them to reflect on their personal strengths, interests and areas for growth.

In a student survey, 75% of respondents said the placement helped them understand more about what they want to do when they finish school.

65% will be more focussed on their school work as a result of completing the placement (our teachers will be happy to hear that!)

92.5 enjoyed their placement, and 74.6% said it helped them understand more about what they want to do when they finish school.

Their comments summarise the program well, they said the program helped them to build confidence and feel more work ready; they learned a range of new skills while meeting new people, and now feel excited for future opportunities.
