Holiday Reading

The library has a current selection of winter reads on display for students to select for holiday reading.   Notable new titles include:  Piper at the Gates of Dusk by Patrick Ness ; Shadow Reaper by Lynette Noni ; The Escape Game by Marissa Meyer and Tamara Moss ; The Midnight Train by Matt Haig ; The Titanic Story of Evelyn by Lisa Wilkinson. 

Students are asked to return their overdue library books before the end of term to facilitate holiday borrowing.

Post it Wall Mural

This year’s Mural has been designed by Bec M and is based upon the Children’s Book Council of Australia’s Shadow Judging logo.  Already at the halfway point, it has taken shape and now illuminates the library foyer with colour.  

Once completed, it will comprise of 1,288 super-sticky Post it notes. 

Sun Project CBCA Shadow Judging

Golden by Jade Timms was the second novel to be reviewed by the Shadow Judges.  The book is set in a small seaside town and portrays the dominant theme of grief as an ongoing notion rather than as a redemptive conclusion.  Featuring other ideas of friendship, sibling dynamics, trauma and lots of wholesome smoothies, its implied readership is at the higher end of the older reader’s scale. Although deemed somewhat cohesive - the mark of a great read - it fell short on reader enjoyment, due to a lack of plot and an unsophisticated language style. 

The book to be reviewed this term is Of Flame and Fury by Mikayla Bridge on Thursday 25 June. 

Book Club

The MGSC Book Club is reading Project Hail Mary by Andy Weir. We will meet  on Wednesday 24 June to discuss the merits of this book.
