Active Learning

Our school is undertaking a push to ensure our students are active learners. The attached active learner matrix is present in all classrooms. In term 2, we will be doing more teaching of the behaviours that drive active learning with the hope that all students will come to understand and embrace what it means to be an active learner.

Homework Club

Homework Club runs at lunchtime on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. Students are encouraged to come along and get their homework completed, catch up on missed work, or get some help. There’s teacher support in a quiet space and is open to all secondary students.

Literacy

Our literacy/numeracy information and pizza night has been postponed until term 2. The planned industrial action on Tuesday the 24th had necessitated the shift.

All secondary students should have a reading response journal, that includes writing about the reading they are asked to do in each subject. For parents of our secondary students, this journal might be a good starting point for discussions around what students are learning about in their classes.

Numeracy

Tip of the week:

Here’s some ideas of how you can promote numerical thinking with your younger children:

  1. Count steps when you go up or down them.
  2. Ask your child to set the table, working out how many knives, forks, cups, etc are needed.
  3. Talk about longer and shorter, lighter and heavier.
  4. Identify shapes in the environment.
