Maths in Foundation
In Maths, we have been exploring different ways to represent the numbers 0 and 10. Children have been using a range of hands-on materials to help them understand what these numbers look like and mean.
Through these activities, students are beginning to build a strong mental picture of 10. This understanding helps them when working with the numbers 11 and 12, as they can see them as “10 and some more.”
We have also been learning about the ideas of “one more” and “one less,” and practising ordering numbers up to 12.
Children have enjoyed lots of hands-on activities using playdough, dominoes, and blocks to make and represent numbers in different ways. These experiences help build strong number understanding while keeping learning fun and engaging.
You might like to try this at home by asking your child to show you different ways to make numbers to 10 using small objects such as buttons, pasta, toys or even their fingers!

Year 1 & 2 A
Another week down! We have been very busy in the classroom over the past couple of weeks and have been learning lots of new things.
In Literacy, we have continued working on making predictions while reading. We have also been looking closely at characters’ emotions and actions in different texts to help us better understand the story.
In Maths, we have been learning a range of addition and subtraction strategies. Students have been practising partitioning numbers, writing number bonds to 20, and we have been introducing addition and equal signs.
In Inquiry, we have been exploring good playing skills, how to deal with bullying, and building resilience.
Our school fete is fast approaching. If you have any items to donate such as toys, games, books or other items you no longer need, please feel free to drop them off at school for our Trash & Treasure stall.

We are fast approaching the end of term 1, where did that time go?!!!
Students in Grade 3/4 should be proud of their efforts for settling into a new and much larger class. A tremendous positive for us has been seeing how resilient students have been with staying on task and trying their very best.
Students who have participated in NAPLAN will be completed this week. A huge congratulations to those students and to families for supporting them through this process. Completing your first NAPLAN is a super achievement!
Upcoming information/dates:
Tuesday 17th of March: Last session of NAPLAN (Students can catch up during this week if they were absent)

Camp last week was a huge success! While the weather — and the petrol prices — weren’t quite as friendly as in previous years, it was still a fantastic experience for everyone involved.
The MasterChef Challenge was a real highlight, with some incredible dishes being served. From chicken tacos, beef brisket, souvlakis and pasta, through to some amazing desserts including brownies, tiramisu, chocolate hot cross buns with melted chocolate and strawberries, and everyone’s favourite — ice cream with Mint Ice Magic. The judges certainly didn’t go hungry!
Students also did a fantastic job during the surfing lessons, tackling some very tough conditions. Let’s just say many students ended up getting a good taste of the salt water — but everyone showed great resilience and had a lot of fun in the process.
A big thank you to Mrs Postle for her assistance and support on camp — it was greatly appreciated.
Our attention now turns to the School Fete, where the Year 11s will be running our Nintendo Switch competition. Come along and see if you can claim the title of Wedderburn College’s Number 1 Mario Kart champion!
Just a reminder that Homework Club runs on Monday, Tuesday and Friday, so make sure you take advantage of that time to stay on top of your work.
With only two weeks to go until the end of term, let’s keep the momentum going and finish the term strongly.
Mr G’s Study Tip — Be Ready to Learn
Success at VCE often comes down to preparation. Being ready to learn means arriving to class organised, focused and prepared to engage with the lesson.
✔️ Bring the right materials✔️ Have your homework completed✔️ Be mentally prepared to focus
When you arrive ready to learn, you give yourself the best chance to understand the content and make the most of every lesson.

REMINDER – Year 12 Camp:Our Year 12 students will be heading off on their final camp to Torquay from 30th March – 1st April. This is a valuable opportunity for students to step away from their usual routines, reflect on their goals and build strategies to support themselves through the final year of schooling. Throughout their visit, students will undertake team building activities, visit Deakin University and The Gordon Tafe and set goals for the remainder of their year (and beyond).
Please ensure that any remaining permission forms are signed and returned to the office as soon as possible. We are really looking forward to sharing this experience with our students.
Managing Your Time & Staying on Track: As we move further into the term, it is important that our senior students begin to take ownership of their time and workload. Small habits now will make a significant difference later in the year.
Here are a few practical strategies to help students stay on track:
1. Plan your week ahead Take 10–15 minutes at the start of each week to map out what is coming up. Include SACs, homework, revision and any part-time work or commitments. Having a clear plan reduces stress and helps avoid last-minute pressure.
2. Use your study periods wisely Study periods are a gift in Year 12 - use them. Whether it’s completing homework, revising class content or seeking help from a teacher, these sessions can make a big difference in keeping on top of your workload.
3. Make use of Homework Club Homework Club is available to all students and is a great way to access support, ask questions and work in a focused environment. If you are finding it difficult to stay motivated at home, this is a great option to help build consistency.
4. Ask for help early If you are unsure about a task or falling behind, it is important to seek support sooner rather than later. Speak with your subject teacher, home room teacher, or reach out via email. A quick conversation can often get you back on track.
5. Keep your materials up to date Ensure your notes, resources and folders are organised and up to date. This will save you time when revision begins and help you feel more in control of your learning
Communication: We would like to remind all senior students that they are expected to log on to Compass each school day and check their school-based Outlook email account for any correspondence from staff. All official communication will be through these channels, and these places should be checked daily.
Please acknowledge receipt of your email when you receive it.
If you are unable to attend a scheduled class or will be absent from an event, please notify one of your home room teachers by email as a matter of courtesy.
Have a great week everyone!
