Hard Work Beats Talent when Talent doesn’t Work Hard’
Football Development Program (FDP) Player Profiles - Amelia Willams
I want to share a story about one of our FDP students and her achievements since joining our FDP program last year.
Player Profile
Amelia Willams 10D
Amelia was always interested in soccer but lacked opportunity at club level and confidence to pursue her goals until she joined the FDP. When Amelia entered the program in 2023, she was in the beginner stage of her football journey. Areas of focus for Amelia were to improve her ball mastery, technical abilities, and general/match fitness. She often found sessions and drills difficult, but always worked hard and tried her best. Towards the end of last year all the little contributions she made in training enabled her ‘Tipping Point.’ Fast forward 12 months and this are a list of her achievements since joining the FDP.
- 2023 Futsal State Title Winner
- 2023 & 2024 Interschool Soccer Divisional Champion
- 2024 Interschool Soccer Regional Runner-up
- Scouted during a competition WCC entered and selected to represent Victoria in the U16 AFA Futsal Titles in Brisbane
- 2024 School’s Invitational Cup Runner-Up
- Joined a community club and her club side won their league and has been promoted to NPL (Highest level for junior footballers in Victoria)
- WCC FDP Female Captain
- Works for a soccer academy and coaches 4-10 year olds on weekends.
Amelia has developed into one of our most important leaders in the FDP and her performances in training and on the pitch epitomise the axiom ‘Hard Work Beats Talent when Talent doesn’t Work Hard’. She represented Victoria in the U16 AFA Futsal Titles in Brisbane in September.
Congratulations Aspen Bosnjakovic
Some fantastic news for Aspen Bosnjakovic (10B) who has been selected to represent Australia in futsal in China next year after her performances in the National Championships in Brisbane over the holidays.
Our first FDP student to get a national team call up!
