Music

In music our classroom was alive with brave voices, racing feet, swirling scarves, and some very serious listening! Across every year level, students explored how melody works — not just by singing it, but by seeing it, feeling it, moving it, and even racing for it!

We have learnt that listening is an essential skill for a musician, but great musicians use this listening to track their progress and refine their skills. Listening is no longer passive — it is analytical and intentional. We have made whisper phones and put them to good use, even out in the yard in our beautiful weather!

Our upper classes continued to develop their existing understanding of melody being built from two key ingredients — pitch and rhythm — and they learned that feeling slightly uncomfortable when trying something new is actually a sign of growth. As we said in class: We are upgrading our musician brains!

Here we are 'stealing the bacon!' Armed with listening skills our students identified rhythms and melodic patterns.
