Governing Council - Becoming a member

Have you ever thought about getting more involved in the school's decision-making? Why not join the Governing Council?

All parents/carers who have children currently enrolled at our school in 2026 are eligible to nominate for election as a councillor.

A governing council meets twice a term to talk about the direction for the site. Meetings are a big part of being on a governing council, but it’s not only that. In your role you might:

be on an interview panel to select the site’s principal or director
need to deal with media in response to an event or a good news story
be an employing authority of out of school hours care (OSHC) or canteen staff.

Shared responsibility

You do not work alone when you are on a governing council. You and the site leader have shared responsibilities, but your day-to-day involvement is different. In your role on a governing council, you work with the site leader to:

Site leaders work with governing councils to:

give educational leadership
carry out the site’s policies
carry out the site learning plan.

No parent/caregiver is eligible if they are:

declared bankrupt or has applied 'for the benefit of a law for the relief of insolvent debtors'
convicted of any offence prescribed by administrative instruction

Permanent employees of the Department for Education may stand for election but:

must not compromise the majority of councillors
are ineligible to hold the position of Chairperson

All school volunteers including members of Governing Council undertake a Criminal History Check through The Department. The school facilitates and pays for this process.

Learning Updates from across the school:

Pre School	We celebrated Diwali Looking towards our pre-assessment and monitoring visit from ESB
Early Years - Rooms 4, 6,7 and 8	Rm 4 - Continue unit 1 of DFE spelling and phonics, phonemic awareness Maths - daily Maths chat, introduction of addition and shapes Room 6- DFE spelling and phonics, Maths-Shapes, Hass-Geography maps, Science-Earth and Space, Diwali activities, Child Protection. Room7 -Have been celebrating Diwali by learning about this very special celebration and having a special early years time to make some beautiful decorations. We have been enjoying our gardening lessons and making observations on how plants grow and change. Room 8 - In English, we have started looking at procedural texts and highlighting how important verbs are in these types of texts. In maths, we have been looking at patterns and algebra, which the students have found challenging but engaging.
Primary Years (Rooms 9, 11, 12	Room 9 students have been on an excursion to the SA Museum and Botanical Gardens. In mathematics we are focussing on creating and completing surveys and reflecting on the data collected. Rm 11 & 12: In English, students have been writing their first essay on our class text The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe. In Mathematics, students have been learning about 3D objects and shape such as nets, cross-sections, translations, rotations and reflections in Rm 12 and Data representation and interpretation in Rm 11.
Primary Special Class	This term in math we will be focusing on shapes and locations, multiplication. HASS will include Diwali. Literacy focuses on increasing the number of sentences on a topic within one piece of writing. Gardening with Dila is always a highlight.
Specialists	PE Students have enjoyed playing cricket and refining their movement skills (bowling, fielding, catching, throwing and batting/striking). Students will apply these skills to play small, modified cricket matches to maximise individual participation and enjoyment.
	STEM Reception students have been using stories to inspire their STEM learning, they made a Bee Bot map telling the story of The Three Little Pigs and have created the bridge from Three Billy Goats Gruff. Students in early years and middle primary are putting the finishing touches on their various obstacle courses and programming robots to navigate them successfully, this takes a lot of patience and resilience. Upper Primary students are coding and debugging their video games ready to share them with the class.
	Japanese Students have enjoyed getting back into their Japanese learning, greeting each other in Japanese and resuming regular hiragana practice. Rooms 6 and 7 are finishing up their learning on Animal Yoga, Rooms 8 and 9 are making mini books about what is in their schoolbags, and Rooms 11 and 12 have begun their listening and viewing unit using scenes from the movie My Neighbour, Totoro.
