Pollinator Week Australia 2025 - “Celebrating the Diversity of Pollinators”

To mark this week, junior primary students created their own honey bee artwork, observed European honey bees in the garden and flowers of the fruit trees that are dependent on bee pollination. The upper primary students engaged in activities to learn about the importance of the pollinators, types of pollination and threats to our pollinators.

The students were also engaged in spotting and identifying diverse pollinators in the school garden such as, European Honey Bees, Australian Native Bees, Hoverflies, Fly species and Beetles.

The Native Plant patch in the school garden has been the main attraction of the pollinators this year. This helped to create the awareness among students about the native plant species and their importance in the biodiversity of the garden.
Blooming Native Lilac and Native Southern Lotus.

Herb Corner
As part of their garden projects, Room 7, 8 and 12 had been working on our new addition to the school garden. All of the herbs were propagated from seeds by students and taking care of them throughout the past terms.
The Herb Corner will create an exciting new sensory space, while attracting beneficial insects to the garden. The students collectively planted, parsley, chives, dill, rosemary, oregano and thyme. Chocolate mint and varieties of basil will be added to the collection soon.

Fruit Trees
We are very fortunate to have completed planting six new fruit trees in our school garden this year. Thank you for the generous donations from our community and the gold coin donations on every end of term casual clothes day. With these new additions our special school garden space now has twelve types of fruit trees.

Thank you to all the students and staff for your hard work and continued support on this task each week. Our garden is a play of joy, nature and connection across our school.
A big shout out to Dilanjali for all her efforts, dedication and knowledge in creating such a beautiful space for our students.
