Growing Respectful Relationships Together
This week Tam and Apryl attended the Term 3 Pastoral Wellbeing Network Day hosted by Catholic Education Sandhurst. Guest presenters, Drew and Dino from Jesuit Social Services, presented on The Men's Project, sharing research and practical strategies to help schools and families support boys in developing positive, respectful relationships. Apryl and Tam look forward to using their new learning to improve current wellbeing programs and whole-school practices where appropriate.
About the Men's Project (Workshop Facilitators) ...
The Men’s Project supports men and boys to live respectful, accountable and fulfilling lives free from violence and other harmful behaviours. We do this through new approaches that improve men and boys’ wellbeing, so that we see more good men, respectful relationships, and safe communities.
Recent Australian research (2025) from the Jesuit Social Services – The Adolescent Man Box survey, shows that many boys feel pressure to always appear strong and confident, making it harder to express emotions or ask for help. The research also highlights the importance of guiding young people to develop respectful attitudes, healthy relationships and safe online behaviours from an early age.
At St Joseph's, our Respectful Relationships program plays an important role in helping students build empathy, resilience and positive relationship skills. Through age-appropriate lessons, students learn about kindness, respect, emotional awareness, consent, inclusion and seeking help when they need it.
By working together as a school and family community, we can support all children to develop the knowledge, confidence and values they need to build safe, respectful and healthy relationships throughout their lives.
