1/2DM: Roaring into Term 2

It's hard to believe we are only just starting Week 4 of Term 2 when we look at how much we've been learning!
The term started with two major events - reflecting on the resurrection of Jesus on Easter Sunday, and on the sacrifice of the Anzacs and all those who have fought in wars. The students chose a piece of work connected to one of these events to share with you.
Our Knowledge Rich unit this term focuses on learning about animals. We have started by learning about their features and how animals are classified. We worked in small groups to sort pictures of different animals and explain why we grouped certain animals together. We also worked together to identify how different features can help an animal to survive.
In Mathematics, we have just finished a unit on place value. We used concrete materials to build models of numbers and to identify the numbers that a one more, one less, ten more and ten less than the number in the model.
We are just starting a unit on measuring length. We had fun comparing objects to identify which was longer or shorter than a a whiteboard marker, and lining the objects up in order from shortest to longest.
In preparation for celebrating Mother's Day, we shared some of the reasons our mums are special to us. We made gifts to give our mums on their special day as a sign of our love and appreciation.
We could not talk about mums without discussing what we know about Mary, the Mother of Jesus . We each drew our own picture of Mary and added words to describe her qualities.
We discovered our mums and Mary share lots of the same wonderful qualities!
