It has been a wonderful and busy start to Term 4.

Congratulations to Lola, Evelyn, Spencer, Claire, Jorja, Alexa, Poppy, Lawson, Ollie G, Callum, Aiden O, Owen, Cooper, Giovanni and Bailey for representing St Joseph’s with pride on Monday 12th at Divisional Athletics. It was a great day with lots of success, and we wish those students who made it to Regionals all the best this Friday 16th!

In Science, students have been looking at chemical sciences where they have developed a hypothesis and then conducted an experiment. They have been very invested in conducting these experiments and seeing the reactions of what happens when you put Mentos into Diet Coke, as well as making their own Sherbet.

Year 3

We have started reading the text Charlotte's Web, which the children have been thoroughly enjoying. To accompany this text, they will be writing a narrative piece about two unlikely friends.

In Maths, we have been learning about 3D objects and have made these shapes out of matchsticks and blutack. Our next unit will be focusing on addition and subtraction and to support the children, if they could practise these skills at home that would be fantastic.

Year 4

In literacy we have started our new novel ‘The Wild Robot’ by Peter Brown. In this unit, students will be creating a persuasive text about getting a robot for home.

The Wild Robot follows Roz, an abandoned robot who awakens on a remote island. As she learns to survive in an unfamiliar environment, Roz develops relationships with the animals around her and eventually becomes the adoptive mother of a gosling named Brightbill. The story explores themes of friendship, family, belonging, and the relationship between technology and nature.

In Mathematics, we have been working on Data Investigations unit. Students have been collecting and organising data and create and interpret a range of graphs. Students have been enjoying creating graphs and inputting data into Excel Spreadsheets to create digital graphs.

Our next unit is on 3D objects where students will be identifying two-dimensional faces on three-dimensional objects, naming and describing, sorting and comparing, drawing, making models from cubes and identifying combinations of three-dimensional objects.
