Year 1 News
Welcome back to all of our wonderful Grade One students and families! We hope you all had a relaxing and enjoyable school holiday break. We are so excited to begin Term 4 and are looking forward to another fun and successful term together before the end of the school year.
In Literacy, we have been learning that the letter c can make the /s/ sound when it is followed by e, i or y. Similarly, we have explored how the letter g can make the /j/ sound when it is followed by e, i or y. Students have also learnt that 'dge' can make the /j/ sound when it follows a short vowel. We have been practising reading and spelling words using these new spelling patterns.
In Mathematics, we have begun another unit on addition and subtraction to further develop the skills we have been building throughout the year. Students have been using number lines to solve addition and subtraction problems, as well as using Unifix blocks to create and solve number sentences. They have enjoyed exploring different strategies to explain their mathematical thinking.
Our Inquiry learning this term focuses on Science. Students have been investigating different materials and discovering how they can be changed physically without changing what they are made of. We have explored actions such as bending, twisting, stretching and breaking materials into smaller pieces. To put our learning into practice, students enjoyed experimenting with playdough to observe how materials can change.
In Religion, we have been building on our understanding of the Gospel and learning that the word Gospel means 'Good News.' Students have been discussing the Good News that Jesus shared with others and making connections to the good news and blessings we experience in our own lives. We look forward to continuing these meaningful discussions throughout the term.
Just a friendly reminder to continue recording your child's home reading in their reading log each week. Regular reading at home helps to build confidence, fluency and a love of reading. We have encouraged students who are ready to read more independently to borrow a short novel from the library to enjoy at home. Thank you for your continued support with home reading.

Year 2 News
We are very impressed by the way Year 2 students have begun their term. Their start has been very hardworking and settled. Term 4 is shaping up to be a busy term for us.
Year 2 Sleepover
Wow! What a fabulous time we had at our Year Two sleepover! Our sleepover looked different this year with students returning to school on Thursday evening. Children enjoyed participating in games, leadership activities, watching a movie before bed, icing and decorating biscuits, yoga and some outdoor activities at Thompsons Beach. The children enjoyed eating a yummy barbeque lunch. The children were amazing and we are very proud of them all, pushing themselves outside their comfort zone, by sleeping at school. They participated eagerly and enjoyed the company of their peers. A memorable experience for all involved.
Year 2 Excursion
Our excursion is next Tuesday 20th October, the Year 2 children will be travelling by bus to Echuca to visit Twisted Science. This excursion aligns beautifully with our current Science unit of work. Last week the students had fun manipulating the material (playdough) into different movements. Could you please make sure your child has plenty of food and water for the day. The students are to wear their sports uniform; please ensure that your child has their school hat too. The bus will be leaving by 9am and returning before 3pm.
Show writing and Art work.
Children have been busy working on some pieces to enter the show. If you visit the show, be sure to check out our some of our stories, poems, handwritten envelopes and Artwork.
Year 2 Assembly Prayer
Year 2 will be on assembly prayer on the 30th of October. Our prayer will be celebrating our Grandparents for our Grandparents Day. You are welcome to come and join us at 9am in the Josephinum.
Year 2 Mass
Year 2 will be going to Mass on the 23rd of October at 11:30am. Parents and friends are welcome to join us.
Religion:
We have started our next Religion topic "The Good News." We have been learning about the bible and how it is structured. In the first two weeks we have discussed that the word Bible means "Good News" and in the New Testament Jesus teaches us how God wants us to live. The students had time making up situations about how we can behaviour like Jesus in our daily life.
