Grade Prep/1/2

In the grade prep, one, two room the students have been working hard on their new learning. The students have enjoyed splitting into their Phonics Plus or Little Learners Love Literacy groups, working on developing their understanding of sounds and how these are used to build words. 

The Little Leaners Love Literacy group have been focusing upon initial sounds m, s, p, f, a. Milo Monkey, Ali Alligator, Sally the Snake, Peter the Penguin, Felix the Frog. The students in this group love the characters and how they help the students learn their sounds.

The Phonics Plus groups have been focusing upon a range of different sounds, dependent upon their current developmental point of need. Students engage in building words though moving sound tiles to say the sounds and build the words. Students have also continued to write new words on their mini whiteboards. 

Students have also spent time learning about some of Aesop's Fables. This week we read about the Lion and the Mouse and how size doesn't matter. Even though the Lion was much bigger than the mouse, the mouse was able to free the Lion and was very brave when doing so. 'It holds through the whole scales of creation that the great and the small have need, one of the other.'

The class also made smoothie bowls where they got to taste a range of new fruits and textures. Some the student's favourites were coconut and strawberry and that the smoothie was purple and pink. It also had seeds which some students liked and others were less sure. Overall, the students enjoyed this new experience.
