Whole School Assembly

Creation Keeper

On 19th May, our Term 2 Whole School assembly was another joyful celebration of life at MECS. Led confidently and warmly by our School Captains and Vice Captains, the morning brought together students, staff, parents and board members for a time of connection and community. Beautiful worship from both the Senior and Junior Secondary bands helped set a reflective and uplifting tone throughout the morning.

This assembly explored the thread ‘Creation Keeper’ with students from across all areas of the school sharing creative and thoughtful examples of how their learning helps them understand and care for God’s world. Our Prep and Junior Primary students shared their wonder that God enables autumn leaves to change colour and plants to absorb water, and Senior Primary students shared their learning about how first nations peoples have been creation keepers throughout history. Our Junior Secondary students shared their love of caring for creation on the MECS site through Horticulture, and our Senior Secondary students explained how modern chemistry enables us to create new biodegradable products that don’t fill God’s earth with waste. Our students’ insights into what they are learning made it clear that Creation Keeping is alive and well at MECS!

At this assembly, our student leaders also launched the new “Who We Are at MECS” document developed by students and based on the 7 threads that capture the values and behaviours that help our community thrive.

A huge thank you to all the students, staff and leaders who helped bring the assembly to life—from music and tech to presentations, planning and pack‑up. It was a wonderful reminder of the vibrant, caring and purposeful community we’re building together at MECS.
