Dempsey's Digest

You know, each day is an adventure at MECS with plenty of learning experiences and opportunities to be together in community happening across the school and there really are too many to capture in my digest. So here’s a snapshot of some of the things happening across the school and in our broader community over the past 2 weeks…

Other CEN Schools & Events

As we are a part of a broader organization, Christian Education National, we at times get to attend or join with other schools in events or conferences. Recently I was delighted to attend the commissioning service of the new Principal at Bayside Christian College. Last week, a number of our staff have been involved in a Teaching and Learning Summit, which provides opportunity for Christian educators to come together to share ideas and strategies around teaching from a Christian perspective. We are grateful for our connection with CEN!

MP Camp Breakfast!

Why is it that porridge tastes better at camp than at home? It might have been the fresh air of Yarra Junction, or simply the warm welcome that I received from students as I visited MP camp last week. From all reports, they had a magnificent time!

Association Sub – Committee

Our board has a few sub committees running in the background, and one of those is the Association committee which meets each term to help focus on growing and enhancing the association. If you are interested in what the association is about, there is a new brochure available at the front office.

Ranges TEC Open Day

Hot pizza, warm welcome and students sharing their love of Ranges TEC. I’m not sure if it gets better than that!? I had such a great time recently visiting the Ranges TEC Open Day, where many families and young people came to check out this wonderful pathway for learning. We even had one of our founders come and check it out! Thanks to the team for a great afternoon of promoting this gem.

MECS/Ranges TEC AGM

Our AGM was a great night of showcasing some talent, getting through the reports and business and hearing about the plans for stage one of our Master Plan. Thanks to all those that attended. Make sure you have the date for the Extraordinary General Meeting towards the end of the year, in your calendars.

Year 7 Scientist Visits

I always enjoy the scientist visits as they share with curious Year 7 students the jobs they do and how God led them to those career paths. Supported by ISCAST (Institute for the Study of Christianity in an Age of Science and Technology), this is a great program for our students to be inspired by the careers of others but also have conversation about the intersection of faith and science.

Athletics Days

We were so blessed to have great weather for our two days of athletics last week. As always, the colour, the fun, the warm competition and fun games make for great days of community building. Thanks to the teams that supported these events.

Edu Deo

During this week, Pak Bradbury, our awesome Indonesian teacher and leader has been sharing with teachers in Kupang, on the Island of Timor. Daniel is representing both Edu Deo ministries and Christian Education National as he assists teachers in how to teach from a Christian perspective. The fact that Daniel is fluent in Indonesian is a great gift to these happy teachers! We are proud of the work that Daniel is doing, advancing God’s kingdom through the training of teachers. The photo depicts the teachers he is working with and he assures me that the hand gestures are symbols of love!
