Year 8 Body Systems
Excursion to Yarra Ranges Tech School
During the Body Systems program, students are given an exciting opportunity to explore the human body through the use of modern medical technologies and immersive digital tools. A highlight, students engage with interactive 3D models and virtual reality anatomy experiences, allowing them to visualise how body systems work in a dynamic and meaningful way.
Throughout the day, students investigate major body systems and their functions, developing a deeper understanding of how the body maintains balance and responds to different situations. Using digital equipment, they measure and interpret vital signs such as heart rate and oxygen levels, using a pulse oximeter and blood pressure machine, making connections between these readings and the body’s physiological responses.
A key highlight of the program is the development of practical, real-world skills. Students learn basic life-saving techniques including CPR and defibrillation using Rescue Annie training dummies, and are exposed to a simulated nursing ward environment. This hands-on experience helps build confidence and awareness of emergency response procedures.
To further connect science learning with modern innovations, students are also introduced to drone coding and explore how drones are used in the transportation of medical supplies. By combining anatomy, health technology, and digital simulation, the program provides students with a rich, future-focused learning experience that links scientific knowledge to real-world medical practice. The students thoroughly enjoyed the day of immersive learning experiences, gaining practical skills and complimenting our Human Body Systems Unit in Science.

Student Reflections:
Today we went on an exciting excursion to learn about the human body and the amazing technology used to keep people healthy and save lives. We explored different medical equipment and discovered how doctors and nurses use special machines to help patients. One of the most interesting parts was learning how to do CPR. We learnt the steps to help someone in an emergency and how CPR can save a person’s life before help arrives. It was a fun and educational experience that taught us important life-saving skills.
