WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW
The OECD’s 2025 report, "The State of Global Teenage Career Preparation", draws on data from more than 690,000 students aged 15 from 81 countries, including Australia, to assess how well young people are being equipped to navigate education, employment, and career transitions in a rapidly changing world.
A key finding from Australia was only 34% of students had completed an internship or work placement, and just 45% had participated in a workplace visit or job shadowing, despite strong evidence that these activities lead to better long-term job outcomes.

At Academy, we offer a range of opportunities for students to participate in structured work placements across Years 10, 11 and 12.
Year 10 students participate in an embedded, compulsory Work Experience program and all students will arrange a placement during the set week (14-18 September 2026). Students participating in the Italy Study Tour will be absent during this time but can arrange alternative dates that suit their availability.
Additional placements are encouraged for all Year 10, 11 and 12 students and can be arranged throughout the year – anywhere from 1 day to a full week.
Our VET DSS students participate in Structured Workplace Learning during their courses, gaining valuable hands-on experience directly related to their studies.
