Team Spirit is Our Competitive Edge
Our House Swimming Carnival was held on Wednesday, 25 February at Northcote Aquatic and Recreation Centre. Despite the weather being a bit on the cooler side, the attendance, participation and enthusiasm shown by the girls was commendable. There was plenty of house spirit shown through chants, colours and some creative dress up costumes.
The Year 12 students started the day off with a bang, with their own choreographed dance, which really set the tone for the day.

The girls did not shy away from the chilly water temperature, eagerly representing their house and striving for their own personal bests. There were some great performances and some exceptional efforts put in by the students, both in and out of the water.
The Year 12’s led us into lunch with a floatie race, celebrating their final house swimming carnival in style. At the lunch break, the scores were tight and the House Captains rallied to maximise their chances for the win. We concluded with medley and freestyle relays, and the final standings at the conclusion of the day were as follows:
First - Sherlock
Second - Goold
Third - Frayne
Fourth - McAuley
Congratulations to Ms Synnot and House Captain, Grace Cusack for taking home the 2026 win!

We would also like to congratulate the following students who were recognised with individual awards as the best performers within their age group:
Juniors – Jasmin Baker
Intermediates – Olivia Nyhof
Seniors – Trinity Liang-Cardenas
Most Outstanding Individual Performance – Lauren Healey

A final congratulations to Trinity Liang-Cardenas and Mackenzie Hugo, who were announced as Swimming Captain and Vice Swimming Captain for 2026 respectively.
A memorable highlight of the day was watching Mr Tomassini come through on his promise of jumping into the pool if Goold House finished either first or second overall, after having a run of last place finishes over the past years. What a good sport from a leader who stands by his House!
Overall, it was a very successful and enjoyable day!
After a busy Swimming Carnival, some of our girls backed it up on Thursday, 26 February with our first CGSAV competition for the year. Our Junior, Intermediate and Senior teams competed in the Division 3 tournament at Glen Waverley Sports Hub, led by coaches Mr Chan and Mr Molony.
All girls put in excellent performances in both the singles and doubles categories and should be very proud of themselves.
The Senior doubles team had a great day and made it to the grand-final, taking the win over Mercy College (18-8). A special congratulations to Olivia Howes for the best player in the grand final.
The Intermediate team also played hard, and were victorious in their grand final performance, defeating Our Lady of Mercy (16-5). A special congratulations to Eva Arounsavat for the best player in the grand final.
Finally, a big congratulations to our Junior team who also made it to the grand final. Despite their loss to Our Lady of Mercy (17-9), the achievement of making the grand final is a worthy celebration. It was great to see our girls back on the winning podium, with their last grand final wins being in 2023 for both the Senior and Intermediate teams.
Well done on your personal efforts and for your strong and proud representation of Academy!
