On Friday, 20 February, the entire Year 12 cohort was treated to a super charged live theatre performance of 'Oedipus the King' by Complete Works.
For some, it was the first time experiencing this kind of performance live. The story of Oedipus by Sophocles, still remains ever relevant for our students today, because it explores timeless themes such as fate versus free will and the complexities of human nature.

In the modern world, we can reflect on Oedipus' struggle with identity and the consequences of our actions, even when we may not fully understand the forces driving them.
The entire Year 12 cohort were thoroughly engaged and the sharp student questions that followed the performance, demonstrated that the classwork is really being absorbed by the students. The performers said it was an absolute pleasure to perform at Academy.
Encore!

This week, our Year 11 and Year 12 students stepped away from their usual classroom routines to take part in their VCE Reflection Days, an opportunity to pause, refocus and reconnect with what truly matters as they navigate the final years of their schooling.
Our Year 11 students participated in a Youth Ministry Team (YMT) leadership day centred on growth, courage and the responsibility of influence. Through engaging activities and honest conversations, students were invited to consider the kind of leaders they want to be, not simply in positions of authority, but in their friendships, families and future pathways. The day encouraged them to reflect on the gifts they bring to our community and how leadership begins with self-awareness, empathy and service.
Year 12 students gathered for a reflection day focused on creating safe spaces and fostering belonging as they approach the culmination of their secondary education. Through guided reflection and meaningful dialogue, they explored themes of identity, racism, resilience, gratitude and hope. With the pressures of final assessments and future decisions looming, the day offered a gentle reminder that they are more than their results, they are young people of dignity, strength and possibility.
Across both year levels, students were invited to slow down, to listen deeply and to support one another. In the busyness of VCE, carving out intentional time for reflection is a powerful gift. These reflection days strengthened connections, affirmed each student’s worth and reminded them that they walk this journey together, supported by their peers, their teachers and their faith.

We are grateful to all who helped facilitate these experiences and to our students for the maturity and openness they brought to each moment.
