Ethical Companies

In recent weeks, the Year 10 Religious Education classes have been learning about the hidden unethical practices of industries such as fashion, chocolate and cosmetics.

Students were encouraged to reflect on how consumer choices can influence global industries and promote human dignity, stewardship of the Earth, and social justice. The unit has prompted thoughtful discussion about personal responsibility and how young people can advocate for positive change within their own communities.

We look forward to seeing our students continue to apply these values as informed and compassionate global citizens.

Here are some posters that the students created about positive companies that aim to pave the way for more environmentally sustainable and ethical business practices.  Let them inspire you for any gifts you may want to buy in the future, so that you too can continue to advocate for fairness.

Synergy

Our Year 9 Synergy students have launched into their first unit, Marvellous Melbourne, deepening their understanding of our city’s rich history and culture.

9 MacKillop participated in a two day collaboration with students from St Bernard’s College to explore Melbourne’s artistic and cultural landmarks.  They started their first day with team building activities before students set off in their groups to investigate ten different locations throughout the city.   Our students demonstrated impressive independence, initiative and teamwork, while forming new connections.

9 Barak completed a barista training course at Complete Hospitality Training before heading to the State Library of Victoria to design their own sustainable coffee cart.  In Week 3, students also led a walking tour for their peers about women who have shaped Melbourne including Vida Goldstein, Gladys Nicholls and Constance Stone.  Their teachers were impressed with the enthusiasm, confidence and finesse with which they delivered their tours.

Last week, both classes spent time exploring The Melbourne Story exhibition at Melbourne Museum, making thoughtful connections between their classroom learning and the displays.

Finally, our Marvellous Melbourne concluded this week with an excursion focused on sketching Melbourne’s iconic landmarks, which students will transform into digital artworks.  The Year 9s toured the historic State Library before participating in a research skills workshop.  They immediately applied these skills in Queen’s Hall, investigating the history of their assigned landmarks and bringing their learning full circle.

Well done to the students of 9 Barak and 9 MacKillop for committing yourselves so positively to Synergy.
