Weeks 7 and 8 saw the Level 3 students finalise their assessment for Semester 1, 2026. The past few weeks have been challenging for the students in terms of numerous assessments, in addition to the continuation of normal daily teaching, and the students have coped and adapted extremely well.

In Literacy we are continuing to learn about the Etymology of words which is the origin of how words were formed. We have been learning about the Latin word 'zo' which means animal. We explored how this word forms other words by adding prefixes and suffixes. For example, zo + ology = zoology and zoo + keeper = zookeeper and zo + ologist = zoologist. There are many other words which we formed using 'zo' as the base word and adding various prefixes and suffixes.
We have also been learning about Homophones which are words that sound the same but have different spelling and different meanings. For example, wear/ where/ we're are homophones but have different spelling and meanings. Other examples are there/ their/ they're and by/ bye/ buy. There are many other examples of homophones which your child could find in their reading books and come up with different ways to remember each one.
Over the past fortnight, we have been exploring representing and analysing collected data in frequency tables, column graphs and pictographs. We have been learning to collect, organise, record and represent data using categories, tally marks and column graphs. The students have enjoyed looking at collections of data and surveys such as 'What is your favourite ice-cream flavour?'
We have also been looking at using coordinates to identify, describe and record the location of objects and points on a grid. Finding coordinates and locations on a grid is something that the students find quite challenging, so we have been working hard to identify the features of grids and graphs and how to interpret them.
We are continuing to learn about fractions by comparing and ordering them by understanding the size of their parts. Students have been placing fractions on number lines, comparing sets of fractions and finding a fraction of certain amounts.
Grade 3 students have been learning about Sustainability as part of their Inquiry studies. We have been exploring the ways we are sustainable at home and school and the ways we can be more sustainable in these areas. Students have been brainstorming their goals to improve their sustainability and the steps required to achieve these goals. Over the next fortnight, Grade 3 students will be creating a poster of their sustainable practices and goals and presenting these to the class!
