Hello Level 1 families,
As we come to the pointy end of another busy and rewarding term, we would like to congratulate all of our Level 1 students on their fantastic efforts over the past few weeks. We are incredibly proud of the way they approached their assessments, giving their best effort and demonstrating resilience, determination, and a positive attitude towards learning. Students also had a wonderful time on our excursion to Werribee Zoo on Friday, where they represented our school exceptionally well. Their respectful behaviour, enthusiasm, and ability to demonstrate the SEPS values throughout the day were a credit to themselves, their families, and our school community. Thanks to our lovely parent helpers whose help was invaluable on the day.
Please enjoy the photos below of our adventurous day at Werribee Zoo:

Take home books will continue to be changed on Tuesdays and Fridays this term.
Homework will continue this term. On Friday, if your child returned their homework book, they would have received their next homework matrix all ready to go in their homework book. Other students will have a loose homework sheet in their bag. This will be due back in two weeks time, on the 26th June.

During Weeks 9 and 10, our Level 1 students will be exploring the traditional tale The Three Billy Goats Gruff. Through engaging reading and discussion activities, students will develop their comprehension skills by identifying and retelling key events from the story. They will also describe character traits and use literal meaning to deepen their understanding of the text. This learning sequence encourages students to think carefully about characters, events and story structure while building confidence in their reading and communication skills.
Our daily Core Literacy lessons include many English components including handwriting, dictation, card deck, making words with letters and their sounds, reading words and texts and comprehension.
It is also a time when we incorporate the student text book, Spelling Mastery, twice a week into our lessons to revise sounds, letter names, spelling rules and the reading and spelling of words.
Here's what we will be focusing on over the next fortnight:
Heart Words - very, what, want, where, out, about, around, round
Morphology - phoneme oo, ea and suffix -ful, -er

Over the next fortnight, students will be developing their understanding of money and number operations. They will practise counting collections of coins and notes, adding and subtracting money amounts, and finding the difference between two amounts. Students will also continue building their number skills by adding and subtracting multiples of ten. Through hands-on activities, games, and problem-solving tasks, students will strengthen their confidence and fluency when working with numbers in real-life contexts. We encourage families to support this learning at home by involving children in counting money and discussing prices during everyday shopping experiences.
Over the next fortnight, students will continue their exploration of the world's continents, focusing on South America and Antarctica. They will learn about the unique features of each continent, including important landmarks and geographical facts. Students will investigate the largest and smallest countries, highest mountain peaks, largest lakes, and other notable natural wonders. Through discussions, maps, videos, and hands-on learning activities, students will develop their understanding of different places around the world and the features that make each continent unique. We encourage families to explore maps and atlases at home to support this learning.
We hope you have a wonderful two weeks ahead. As always, if you have any questions about the learning or your child, please don't hesitate to organise a time to speak to us.
Warm Regards,
The Level 1 Team
