Principal's Report

Dear SEPS Families,
We hope you enjoyed the extra-long long weekend last weekend. I think we could have done with another one this morning. There were a few tired people (big and little) dragging themselves into school. Teachers have been conducting our standardised assessments in preparation for Semester 1 Reports and the evidence is showing that everyone has been working very hard this term. It has been a delight seeing the learning growth and engagement continually rise. Our data is looking very impressive.
Curriculum Day
During our curriculum day, staff focussed on professional learning relating to Multi-tiered Systems of Support (MTSS). We also reviewed our core literacy strategies and teaching approaches while delving deeper into English planning. We spent much of Semester 1 prioritising our professional learning around numeracy fluency and retrieval practice. We will be shifting our focus in Term 2 back to English and our knowledge- based curriculum. We are very fortunate at Sandy East to have an entire staff that is committed to improvement and leading the way in educational excellence.
Battle of the Bands
I am beyond excited that our one and only parent band, Carpool Tunnel Syndrome, are back in rehearsal mode. They are busy getting ready to once again represent Sandy East in the Parent Battle of the Bands and I hear this year’s line-up is bigger and better than ever. They will be competing in the Bayside PBOB Round on August 7 at Lucky 13 Garage in Moorabbin. Proceeds from ticket sales come directly back to the school for our music/performing arts program. Make sure you click on SEPS when you buy your tickets. Not only will you be supporting our parents and helping raise funds for the school, but you will also have a great night out. Last year was so much fun and the talent was outstanding. Sadly, another local school won the largest support crowd but I’m confident that we could smash that this year BUT you will need to save the date and grab your tickets. Bring along family and friends… or come on your own and meet up with a great bunch of SEPS parents on the night.
Only two weeks to go before the winter break but still so much on the calendar. We have a School Council meeting tomorrow, students participating in the High Ability program for English and Maths, Story Time for our kinder kids, Reports released and PT interviews and we will also be wishing our Grade 5s all the best on their camp at Sovereign Hill. So, no time to slow down just yet.
We look forward to seeing you all at our parent teacher interviews next week.
Jane Briffa
