Visual Arts

Following on from our wonderful artists who won prizes in the Ellen Jose awards and continuing our Reconciliation Week theme, I would love to ask everyone a question. As many of you know our wonderful class off 2025 did a fabulous depiction of Bunjil the eagle, our own creation story at the end of last year. While the end of the year is a long way off, it seems a wonderful time to start planning our class of 2026 collaborative masterpiece. options include; Tiddalick, The Rainbow Serpent and The Seven Sisters. Please send your kids to art class with ideas and thoughts. We are always open to suggestions.

Mandarin

Grade 6 students have been extending their Mandarin sentence writing by using reasoning language to explain their ideas. Building on their learning about countries, travel, and activities, students are now learning to describe where they would like to go, what they would like to do, and why they would like to visit those places.

Year 2 students have been learning to use adjectives in Mandarin to describe body build and hair. They have been practising sentence structures such as “both…and…” and “not too…not too…” to describe different physical features using longer and more detailed sentences.

It has been wonderful to see students continuing to build confidence in speaking and writing Mandarin throughout the term.

Physical Education

Level F- 2

Students in F–2 have been developing their throwing and catching skills through a variety of fun and engaging activities. Using tennis balls, colourful silks, and beanbags, students have been practising different catching techniques and learning strategies to improve their success when catching.

It has been wonderful to see students grow in confidence and demonstrate increased control and coordination as they continue to develop these fundamental movement skills.

Level 3 & 4

In Levels 3 & 4, students have been developing their kicking, bouncing, and marking skills through AFL 9s. Throughout the unit, students have been learning and practising the fundamental skills required to play Australian Rules Football, while also improving their teamwork and game awareness.

It has been fantastic to see students applying these skills in game situations and, most importantly, enjoying themselves, with plenty of smiles on display throughout each lesson.

We are now transitioning into Athletics, where students will be developing their sprinting and hurdling skills. Through a variety of drills and activities, students will learn the techniques needed to run efficiently and safely clear hurdles.

These skills will be valuable as students begin preparing for our Athletics Carnival in Term 3, and we look forward to seeing their confidence and performance continue to improve.

Level 5 & 6

Our senior scientists have started to observe how refraction causes light to bend. They have experimented with light boxes and prisms.
