Performing Arts & Music

Juniors
The Foundation students have enjoyed learning about Japanese Performing Arts. They learnt about the Japanese fan dance is called 'Nihon Buyo' (日本舞踊). It is a traditional dance form that incorporates the use of fans to create elegant and graceful movements. Nihon Buyo has a long history in Japan and is often performed at cultural events and festivals.
The children enjoyed creating and dancing with their own fans made of paper. They moved like nature with graceful, sweeping movements.
They are also learning about Japanese drumming called 'Taiko' in preparation for Japanese Day. We used claves to create drumming stance, positions, movements and rhythm.
Seniors
The Grade the Grade 3 students have completed all of their planning a development for their "Video Game" soundtrack, and are on to the music creation element of this project. "BeepBox" is a music creation program that allows the students to create 64bit music compositions (think the sound of the Mario Bros music) using a variety of structured musical themes.
The students can choose between happy or sad templates, and create compositions based on these major or minor scales.
They began by learning how to save!, and experimented with major and minor chord sequences. From here we will begin to add melody lines and of course funky drum beats!
Cannot wait to see what they create.
