Year 12 Study Camp

Camp Howqua

Camp Howqua

Wednesday, February 26th marked the start of an unforgettable three-day adventure for the Year 12 students at Camp Howqua. With excitement in the air, many students eagerly anticipated the camp’s activities—and they were certainly not disappointed.

The camp was filled with a variety of activities, from study sessions to thrilling adventures like the flying fox, high ropes, archery, and water slide. One standout experience was horse-riding, with many students having the chance to ride a horse for the very first time. But the survivor course was the clear favourite, as students tackled its challenging obstacles. Initially overwhelmed by the sheer scale of the course, they quickly dove into the challenge, climbing over walls, navigating tightropes, crawling through sand tunnels, and swimming through muddy pits. Their bravery, teamwork, and encouragement for one another showcased the strong bonds they had already formed in such a short time.

The competitive trivia night allowed students to show off their talents, with exciting rounds of questions, balloon popping contests, and impromptu karaoke performances. Our student leaders also organized a series of team-building activities, including balloon races, charades, hula hoop challenges, and more, ensuring the night was full of fun and laughter.

Throughout the camp, students had the chance to strengthen friendships with their peers and teachers. The memories created and the connections made during their time at Camp Howqua will undoubtedly be treasured for years to come.

A huge thank you to our dedicated TLSC staff who supported the Year 12 students during their camp adventure. Your hard work and support made the experience possible, and we couldn’t have done it without you!

Student Testimonials:

Camp Howqua was a really enjoyable experience! It was a great way to begin year 12 and allowed us to build meaningful relationships with other students from our year level. It pushed us try things we would have never likely done otherwise, whilst providing moments to remember forever.

The activities ranged vastly from horse riding, in which we got to meet and form a connection with a horse we will remember forever and travel across a beautiful trail, to the waterside, which allowed us to race each other to the end whilst also cooling down from the excessive heat. Each activity brought about excitement and joy and put us outside of our comfort zones.

The additional trivia night held on the first night brought more entertainment as we got to group with our peers and face against others through multiple categories of knowledge. The additional minigames further brought us all together as we cheered on the participants.

And the student leadership activities on the second night allowed students to have some fun whilst pushing leaders, such as myself, to run an activity by ourselves. This allowed us to improve our communication and leadership skills as we ran the activity for all students to enjoy. After the activities we all got to chill and watch a movie in our pjs while we ate popcorn. Both nights were filled with tons of joy!

The camp itself was incredible. All the way from the food to the cabins, it was an amazing place to stay. I personally liked the fact that I was able to wake up with my friends and go outside to watch the sunrise in the morning surrounded by the kangaroos.

We all had an amazing experience at Camp Howqua. It was one which was unlike so many others. I’d really like to thank the support of the teachers and staff across the three days. And I’d definitely encourage this experience to future year 12 students at this school!

Our time at Camp Howqua was an awesome experience for everyone that attended! Thanks to the teachers and peers around us, we formed meaningful connections and were encouraged to leave our comfort zone and give every activity a go. We bonded over funny moments at the trivia night and made memories in the dining hall. Personally, I really enjoyed the waterslide; it was super fun and helped us cool down from the very hot weather. Another favourite moment of mine was the trivia night where students had to participate in various humorous mini-games; seeing the support and encouragement from my fellow year 12s was really inspiring. Being our last school camp, it was truly special to share such a great time with my friends and peers as well as the teachers who will support us throughout this exciting year. This camp was absolutely the best!

Spending three days at Camp Howqua was a fun mix of new experiences, good food, and great company. The activities were easily the best highlight of camp, so many of us were able to have fun and enjoy ourselves even with the hot weather. The best activity for me was horse riding, it was my first time, so I wasn’t sure what to expect, but it ended up being absolutely fantastic. We learnt how to guide the horse, and we eventually set out on a trail ride among the trees and lake right next to us. It was certainly a learning curve but one I won’t forget.  Trivia night was another stand out- way more intense and competitive than expected- our team wasn’t the very best at every category, but that didn’t stop us from giving it our best shot. The best part was how everyone contributed in their own way- whether it was random knowledge, or quick thinking, or even just keeping the energy up. By the end of the night, it felt like we all come together as a group. What made camp truly special was how everyone supported each other. Whether it was cheering someone on, laughing, or encouraging friends to try something new, there was always a sense of camaraderie. By the end of it all, everyone left with great memories- and maybe even a few new friends.
