Library News

Welcome

The library team would like to welcome our new students, in particular Year 7’s, as well as returning students to our library for 2025. We are enjoying meeting our students and watching as they learn that the library is an exciting place of discovery and a place of sanctuary if required.

Our library is accessible to all students throughout the school day. We are open before school from 8:15am, at recess and lunchtimes as well as after school to 4:15pm Monday through to Thursday. In addition, students are reminded they are welcome to attend the Homework Club which runs in the library after school on Wednesday afternoons.

An important part of our library’s vision is to foster an ongoing love of reading, and we offer many services to support this aim. As part of the library program, we provide a fun and successful Victorian Premiers’ Reading Challenge program every year.  All Year 7 students participate in the VPRC while older students are encouraged to speak with a library staff member if they would like to participate in the Challenge.

Our library fiction collection is an extensive collection of popular and interesting novels that caters and appeals to all abilities. We regularly purchase new and up-to-date books, and all our staff are available to recommend books for all reading abilities.

Our students can access Wheeler’s eBooks and audiobooks via the star icon on Compass. In addition, we also have a good collection of games and puzzles for students to enjoy during recess and lunch. We regularly run fun interactive activities during lunchtime. These activities include Kahoot.it games and craft making workshops and are designed to coincide with special calendar dates.

In Week 2, the library celebrated all things Lunar New Year. In the ‘Year of the Wood snake’, we ran a lantern making workshop and, as always, a great selection of Lunar New Year inspired novels for students to borrow. Week 3 saw many students participate in our ‘Library Lovers’ Day’ on February 14th. Fun was had by all students who made heart shaped origami bookmarks, competitively battled with other like-minded students on the romance books Kahoot and had fun going on a ‘blind date with a book’.

Please enjoy some of the photos taken at our Lunar New Year celebrations, Library Lovers’ Day activities and from the Year 7 Library Orientation Program.
