House Launch 2024

One of our priorities within our Annual Implementation Plan in 2024 is the development of a rich and engaging house group program at Woodmans Hill. For years we have had house groups: blue, red, yellow & green, but activities to build house connection and belonging have been focused on sporting events such as our Swimming Sports and Athletics Carnival. For some time, we have felt that this does not value the expertise and special skills of all students, especially those who have interests outside the sporting arena.

In 2023, we tasked a variety of groups with updating our houses for a 2024 launch.

Our First Nations group, worked with elders within the local Wadawurrung community to select mascots for each house with names from traditional language.

Then, our Visual Arts academy created prototypes of each of our mascots and there was a selection process to decide on the final designs.

It is my great pleasure to introduce to you our new house names and mascots.

On Friday 9th February, we held a House launch for all Woodmans Hill students.

Students attended a house assembly with their staff and student leaders, learned about their new identity as part of their house and participated in a broad range of activities that catered to students with vastly different skills.

Some of the activities included: tug of war, dodgeball, uno tournament, Minecraft (create a mascot), Maths and English puzzles, trivia and Making mascot banners and posters for our Swimming Sports.

Winners for each activity were given points and for our very first house events the overall winners were Lok-Lok, followed by Barribin, Kanyul & Kadac.
