On The 16th of February at Eureka swimming pool, our Year 12 VCE VM class held a BBQ
between 11am and 1pm. We sold both vegan and beef sausages for $2, with the option of having onions, gluten free bread and tomato or BBQ sauce. These extras came at no extra cost!!
As a class we assigned ourselves roles prior to the event, so we would all know when and where we needed to be. Roles assigned included Cooking, Equipment and utensils (responsible for making sure we had everything we needed to make the sausages) servers, ingredients (responsible for making sure we had all the ingredients we needed and how much they cost.) And floaters who were there to help with anyone that needed help. I was assigned the role of server alongside Phoebe and Phaedra. We also had help from Kendra who isn’t even in our VM class, so big thanks to Kendra. Kendra and Phoebe took the orders and dealt with the money while Phaedra and I made the sausages and let me tell you I have never made so many sausages in my life. While it was slightly chaotic at the start, we quickly got into a good rhythm and were able to get the orders out pretty quickly.
Another role that was assigned was cooking and preparing the food. Branden, Arden and Max did a really good job, they stayed for the entire time cooking and helping where needed, Branden and Arden also cleaned the BBQ, they left it cleaner than they found it. Jaykeb and Cooper also helped pack all the stuff we needed in Miss Hollands car in the morning.
The group worked really well together in some areas like organizing everything beforehand, set up and pack down and teamwork, the cooks were really good at getting the food to us and there was really good communication over the speakers when letting students know when the sausages were ready and when the price had been reduced.
Overall, it was a really fun experience and I learnt new skills like how to plan a school event and I was able to better skills I already had. Like communication, teamwork and organization. Everyone did an awesome job at the swimming carnival BBQ and well done to all who participated in the swimming events.
