Introduction to Term 4 | Music Room Etiquette | Meet the Team!
The Music Department has kicked off the term with wonderful energy as our talented vocalists and instrumentalists put the finishing touches on their repertoire for the upcoming VCE Performance Exams held at Kingston Town Hall and St Leonards. While several students have already wrapped up their final assessments, many others are preparing to take the stage in the coming days.
During our Monday Handover Assembly, Dominique Rault delivered a spectacular performance of Advance Australia Fair, followed by a thrilling rendition of John Farnham’s 'You’re the Voice' that had the entire audience cheering.
Dominique has been a remarkable ambassador for Cheltenham Secondary College, having recently taken the stage before a crowd of over 5,000 at John Cain Arena in late August. Be sure to tune in this December when the full concert is broadcast on
Channel 7!
On Wednesday 21 October, our Ensembles Extravaganza showcased all of our rock bands and musical groups as they shared their hard work with our school community. We loved seeing all of you there cheering them on.
This evening, our Year 11 VCE Music students are hosting their final recital of the year in the auditorium. They have poured incredible dedication into their craft throughout the year, and everyone is warmly invited to attend.
Our Chelt Voices Southland Christmas Carols performances are scheduled for Friday 20 November and Friday 4 December. We have organized two distinct groups to ensure students can participate without conflicting with exams or rollover commitments. Parents and families are warmly encouraged to join us at the shopping center to enjoy these festive tunes.
Sharing Christmas carols at Southland is an annual tradition that connects our young musicians with the wider community. It is always a heartwarming highlight that brings holiday cheer to shoppers of all ages.
As part of Wellbeing Week commencing 19 October, live musical showcases took place on the landing outside the music office on Thursday during lunchtime. Thank you to those who came to show their support to our amazing performers!
Doing music at Cheltenham has made the whole high school experience feel more interesting and enjoyable. Being able to connect with other students to play music is a truly magical thing. Throughout the years, being involved with the Avenues band, Stage Band, Chelt Voices and eventually becoming Music Captain have been the highlights of my years at school. I had the duties of holding Open Mics for students, a concert for International Week and being called to organise and MC events whenever needed. From Italian Week, the Year 7 Welcome BBQ, the Year 7 Debut Concert and mentoring young students along the way, it’s been wonderful to have been able to play such a big role in the overall music program. A big thank you to my amazing music mentors Anita Marcou, Christian Meyer, Adam Coad, Joel Dawson and Lisa Maxwell-Cripps for all the support and guidance throughout the years.

We are thrilled to be your Music Captains for 2027!
Over the remainder of this year, we have many exciting events planned for the whole school to enjoy. These include a lunchtime courtyard performance on Thursday 22 October as part of Wellbeing Week, as well as a performance for the incoming Year 7s on their Orientation Day, featuring the 2026 Avenues Band and other talented musicians from our school.
We also have plenty of ideas and events planned for next year, including bringing back our beloved Chelt’s Got Talent, organising a performance for the newly welcomed Year 7s at their barbecue, and hosting regularly scheduled open mics for the whole school to enjoy.
If you have any suggestions or requests, we would love to hear them. Your ideas and opinions will help us make music an even bigger part of our school community.
