 Geelong Tertiary Futures Program

This term, our Year 9 students have had the fantastic opportunity to take part in the Geelong Tertiary Futures Program (GTFP), delivered by The Gordon TAFE in partnership with Geelong secondary schools. Across three separate visits, students got out of the classroom and into a genuine tertiary training environment, sampling career pathways they might never otherwise have considered.

Each student selected from around 23 different vocational "Career Previews" on offer, spanning everything from Graphic Design and Early Childhood Care to Horticulture and Carpentry. Rather than just hearing about these industries, students rolled up their sleeves and had a real, hands on go at them, working alongside TAFE trainers, using industry equipment, and getting a genuine taste of what a future career or course of study could look like.

The feedback from students has been terrific. Many came back buzzing about trying something completely new, whether that was their first time in a trade workshop, a hospitality kitchen, or a creative studio, and for a lot of our Year 9s, this was their first real exposure to what life after school could involve. It's this real, practical engagement that makes the program so worthwhile for our students. Students don't just learn about pathways, they experience them.

Alongside the practical sessions, students also are working through two units in Work Health and Safety and Communications, including drafting their own resumes, building genuine, transferable skills for future job applications.

Programs like GTFP make a real difference. Students report feeling more informed about their options, more motivated to keep learning, and better prepared to start planning their own pathway forward. A great initiative for our Year 9 cohort, and a brilliant reminder of just how broad the world of opportunity is beyond the school gates.

Year 7 Girls Basketball

Earlier this term the Year 7 Girls competed in inter-school basketball at Beyond Bank Stadium. 

In the pool matches the girls dominated the competition, playing some great team basketball to account for Matthew Flinders, Belmont High and Geelong High. Facing a tougher competition in the semi finals, the girls defeated Bellarine by 8 points, to set up a grand final showdown with Western Heights. Despite their best efforts, the team came up just short losing by 6 points. 

The girls should be incredibly proud of their efforts, playing extremely well as a team to finish the day as the second best school in the Geelong region. Surf Coast SC would also like to thank JJ Daniels, the Surf Coast Chargers American import, who volunteered his time to coach the girls on the day!

Year 9 & 10 Outdoor Education Highlights

In term 3 our outdoor Ed students were out and about, embracing new experiences and making the most of the incredible natural environment around us.

We are so fortunate to have such an amazing landscape on our doorstep, providing the perfect setting for students to learn, explore, challenge themselves and enjoy the outdoors.

2026 Interschool Snowsports Championships

Well done to Nash and Howard for representing SCSC at the recent Interschool Snowsports Championships!

Nash smashed his comps and Howard worked hard to achieve 3rd in the ski slopestyle.
