YR 12 VOCATIONAL MAJOR
Year 12 VCE VM students have been busy bringing their ideas to life through a range of projects designed to strengthen connections and address needs within our school and wider community. Working in teams, students have planned, problem-solved and collaborated with others to turn their ideas into action.
Here are just a few of the fantastic projects they have been working on…
Food waste and access to fresh food are major issues in Australia, with 1in 5 Australians lacking access to fresh food and 7.5 million tonnes of food wasted each year.
To help make a difference, we renovated our school garden by removing weeds and growing fresh produce for students.
We also included Year7 students to help them settle into high school and build connections across year levels.
A huge thank you to Bunnings for providing a gardening workshop and supporting our project.
Working in the garden was not only an incredible experience but also such a privilege. As a team, we faced many challenges, yet we overcame them and learnt from our mistakes.
The year 7s and our team grew close and formed many friendships, which we are beyond thankful for. We loved learning about how seasons affect plant growth, how annoying snails can be, and how crucial composting is for a healthy garden.
We also greatly appreciate all the support we received from our, teachers, students, Bunnings and parents throughout the project.
We hope the garden continues to be used and enjoyed by staff and students for years to come, even after we leave school. We love VM because it gives us the opportunity to get outdoors and garden as a part of our project.

Students Make a Difference for GAWS

Students at our school have been working together to support GAWS (Geelong Animal Welfare Society) and help animals in need.
As part of our project, we set up 10-cent bottle collection bins and a tub for students and staff to donate pet food. We also created posters around the school to spread awareness about GAWS and visited classes to explain our cause. To make our campaign more fun and engaging, we even had a dog mascot (Roxy) helping us promote the project!
Thanks to the generosity of our school community, we successfully collected donations of pet food as well as money from 10-cent bottles. These donations will help GAWS provide essential supplies and care for the animals in their care.
Our project not only supported a local organisation but also helped raise awareness across our school community about animals in need and the important work GAWS does.

Growing for the Future – We’re building a greenhouse
Jordan N, Finley D and Angus T have built a greenhouse in our school veggie garden. The greenhouse will allow students to propagate our own plants and provide a space for future students to continue gardening and sustainability projects.
