PRINCIPAL'S REPORT

Dear Parents and Carers,

As Term 3 comes to a close, I would like to thank our students, staff and families for another fantastic term at Surf Coast Secondary College.

We continue to see very encouraging evidence of the growth and improvement occurring across our College. Our recent Attitudes to School Survey results showed significant improvement across almost every measure, reflecting increasingly positive student experiences of learning, engagement, wellbeing and connection to school. Almost all measures improved again this year, showing us that our students, by and large, feel very positive about their experiences at SCSC. More details on this data are available in my recent Compass post to parents and carers.

It is particularly pleasing that this improvement is also being reflected in our Parent Opinion Survey. While we will share the full results with our community in Term 4, the early data shows increased positive endorsement in the way our families view the College and the education and support we provide.

Our latest NAPLAN results provide further evidence of our continued academic growth. We have seen an increase in the number of students achieving in the Strong and Exceeding proficiency levels, alongside improvement in relative growth. Our results have reached new heights in several areas, including significantly outperforming our similar schools group in Writing and Grammar and Punctuation.

This term, the Department of Education released a new report to schools that matches Year 9 NAPLAN results with VCE performance. I’ll let these results speak for themselves…

You can see from these infographics that SCSC VCE students are showing significantly higher growth than similar schools, our network schools and the state average. It is yet more evidence of the positive impact of our new approaches to teaching and learning that are setting our VCE students up for success in their School Assessed Coursework (SACs) and the end-of-year exams.

All of these results are a credit to the hard work of our students and the extraordinary commitment of our staff to continually improving teaching, learning and student support.

For our students undertaking a scored VCE in 2026, there is still important work ahead. I encourage all to remain focused on your studies, take advantage of every learning opportunity offered by your teachers, and participate fully in the practice exams being held during the second week of the September school holidays. Putting in the hard work over the coming weeks can make a significant difference to your final results.

I would also like to say a massive congratulations our VCE VM students, the majority of whom have recently completed their programs and will graduate with their VCE VM! For those students still finalising their work requirements over the next couple of weeks, your teachers are all here to support you in completing these tasks - you’re almost there! Reaching the end of Year 12 is an important milestone, and I wish all our graduating VCE VM students every success as they move into employment, further education, training and the next stage of their lives.
